AirForce Airguns joins with Rapid Air Weapons

(Fort Worth, TX – January 23, 2018) The AirForce group of companies which includes AirForce International and BKL Technologies is excited the announce the addition of the Rapid Air Weapons and Theoben brands to the lineup.

Rapid Air Weapons(RAW) has established itself as the premier manufacturer of high performance airguns in the US. The company is well known to airgun shooters demanding world ranked performance in field target and benchrest competitions. Hunters looking for refinement, reliability, and extreme accuracy are lining up to add a RAW air rifle to their collection.

After finding it difficult to keep with increasing production demands, RAW's owner Martin Rutterford decided to seek an alliance with a company that could offer increased production capacity while still maintaining the level of quality RAW is known for. After vetting the available options Rutterford approached AirForce Airguns with the idea of combing resources. He said "I was impressed by AirForce's reputation for reliability, performance, and great customer service. After looking at other companies, it became quickly apparent AirForce would be the first choice."

AirForce President John McCaslin said "After extensive negotiations we finalized an agreement just days prior to the SHOT Show. I can't say enough about how excited I am to expand the availability of these world class US made airguns."

Future plans include bringing back the legendary Theoben line of airguns. Theoben started building airguns in England over 30 years ago and quickly developed a reputation for quality. After ceasing operations 5 years ago during a severe economic downturn, there has been a relentless cry to bring the line back into production. "We intend to bring this classic line of airguns back into production as we ramp up the availability of RAW products" said McCaslin “There are very few airgun companies that actually make their guns in the US with US made components, and utilizing US workers. This was one of the main reasons Rutterford approached us at the beginning of the talks. We will continue in that direction as we focus on US made quality and performance while our competitors focus their businesses around imported components and assemblies.”

AirForce Airguns has been innovating, designing and producing precision pre-charged air guns at their Fort Worth, Texas headquarters for over 15 years. In 2016, AirForce opened a new state of the art factory in Texas to keep up with the growing demand and integrate the newest manufacturing techniques.

AirForce is known for developing the most technologically advanced airgun shooting systems in the world and is the original and favorite black airgun. With a reputation for flexibility and legendary accuracy, AirForce Airguns offers a solution for just about any airgun shooting situation.

Serious airgunning starts at AirForce Airguns.

"anqgiap"This is exciting! RAW definitely needs to work out their production issue, 16-week wait time is a no go for any business. At the same time, I hope RAW will still maintain their high standard in manufacturing one of the best air rifles in the business.

So I partially disagree with this

Yes it would be nice for those with guns on order to have a shorter wait time.
However many successful companies have a long wait time.
Look at custom cars, boats, etc. where wait times are measured in years not months.
And yes I understand these are much small items, however they are each a custom build
with attention on every gun by none other than the owner of the company.

If they ramp up production in the hopes of being the next FX then there is only 1 Martin and
he will no longer be able to inspect and shoot every gun that leaves the factory.
Will that reduce the quality only time will tell, but I swapped from FX to RAW for a reason.

To me a RAW is a semi custom luxury item that I can afford, not a production item.
I hope that does not change, but it sounds like that is what they plan to do.

I agree with Terry's comments, but I would also add that Martin really needs to step back and train a select group of highly qualified individuals to 'see what he sees' when it comes to testing, and let a small fleet take over the quality assurance functions. Martin can (and should) sign off on the results (test targets, or whatever) to ensure his stamp of quality is still evident on the product.

I also see this as somewhat vital (and overdue) to leaving the company / secrets in place in the event that Martin got struck by lightning (God forbid)-as that would completely shut down the RAW brand altogether. Additionally: I'm sure he and Sandra are WAY overdue for a vacation-perhaps that's something that can finally happen in the next 3 years so he doesn't burn out...

I don't know much at all about AF-so I won't comment on that.

I'm assuming Theoben will be a lower price lineup-not a bad move in my opinion. I wouldn't mind picking up a Eliminator (Crow Magnum) as I never got a chance to own one before...

What a bummer. I agree totally with Terry.the whole process. And wait was a exciting process .mass production. Is just. That maas producing .. Weres the fun in that...its my opinion. ..i wish the raw team the best wonder if i can have martin still build my rifles or is the whole shehbang moving to texas. Happy for the rutherfords good luck .will this open the door for another custom co ...ifts a sad day

I agree Marting should train others.
Having said that I have trained people to do what I do before and have usually found that they do not give it the same care
and attention that I would.

Maybe RAW will be better than ever, only time will tell. We can hope.

Having been a one man shop before, I agree he Martin putting his hands on every gun is probably long overdue for a vacation.
My last 2 vacations were 7 years and 10 years apart.

Also having been in a couple partnerships I have found that somewhere someplace compromise is inevitable.Hence why I am no longer in any!
Hopefully it is not the quality that we have all come to love!

I have no issue with AF and RAW merging it’s the personal one on one you got calling RAW is what I’m going to miss and as far as taking 16 weeks, it’s worth the wait knowing you are getting a airgun that has been built in house to your specifications from the ground up and a Made in the USA product to boot just like the Texan is...Those of us that are fortunate enough to have one of Martins Airguns are a lucky group of people being its a end of a era, now will just have to see what happens.
I need to call and order a SST for my .30 so this will probably be the last time I talk to Sandra and or Martin. Good luck to both...

My thoughts exactly, on all counts @terrymc

I own a RAW and also an Airforce airgun. I love them both! However, this is like Ferrari moving production to a John Deere facility. Could John Deere (or Caterpillar) build the same exact car, no compromise?? Maybe! I don’t know. We’ll find out soon!

Or.. Is Airforce handling production of the Theoben line, while Martin produces the RAW branded rifles?

Its going to be interesting!

Glade to have my .25 caliber (what I consider custom gun in hand) and hoping that my .22 on order now is built by Martin as well. I'm not so impressed with the change but I do wounder if the schedule was burning Martin out. Pure speculation on my part as I would guess he was spreading himself very thin which is not good either.

I appreciate what RAW has given me and wish the best to all involved. My hope is that the transition is smooth and that the people at AF recognize that the RAW weapon is not perceived as a production gun in our eyes. Change like this is never easy on the people directly involved, or the slugs like me who are indirectly involved. I'm sure that with the power of AF as a company they will be able to produce as quick or more quickly which should drive cost down. That said I also hope that the quality does not suffer as a result. This is not a jab at employees of AF as I'm sure that they have great skills and determination to continue building quality weapons.

To all RAW employees I would like to thank you for the weapon that I had purchased from your facility in Minor Hill. I also wish all of you the very best and will always be grateful to have a weapon built by all of you.

Made by RAW in TN, sold by AF.

Should be a good thing.
Just to me ( eh ?) it seems many folks order "custom" rifle's - which does take a lot of extra time and phone and - that could just be ordered from a dealer. Most of the "custom" order's one see's one this forum don't even want a specific LOP, a right off the shelf rig IF you just wanted the color combo that was already sitting.
Martin can make and ship ANY RAW overseas, say 30 TN1000's in .177 all tube guns , all one run and never a hassle.
It will be very nice to have RAW's available AND a custom shop for the few who actually want/need a custom rig.

There is at least one large ( out side the U.S.) dealer that carries a HUGE variety of ready to purchase RAW's, various cal. stocks, ... . One the shelf reay to go in one stop.

IF the U.S. is headed that way with RAW this is a good thing.

I have ‘boots on the ground’ talking to Martin in person at the moment, trying to get some clarification on how things will be broken down between companies. First question answered: yes, he (I believe that means Martin directly) will still be doing custom RAW orders. I’m having him ask whether that means AF will produce ‘standard RAW’ guns, parts for ‘all RAW’ guns, or only Theoben brand items. Will post responses, when/if I get answers.

Please allow me to clear up some speculation. I have shot and worked with RAW for a few years now, so close that i consider Martin and Sandra my second family. Martin is a very smart businessman and has worked very hard to build the RAW name to what it is today. This merge would have never happened if there was a chance of any down grading of the quality and workmanship that we all have come to love and expect from RAW. Martin will continue personally building these fine rifles as in the past. What the customer doesn’t see is the work that happens other than the assembly process. This merge with AirForce will allow Martin to devote more time on the individual rifle and continue the assurance that every rifle is perfect and will exceed every customer’s expectations. Every RAW rifle will be coming from Tenn to the dealer/distribution. This move is only going to benefit you the shooters with same high quality with less build time. I personally will still sell/service RAW in the same personal experience manner that the customer deserves.

Thank you, Ken
