RAW HM 1000

I have been bitten by the AG bug and I have been looking at the RAW HM 1000 on line. Does anybody have any feedback on this gun? What is the expected delivery? I have been a 30 BR score shooter in the past years and I love the challenge of precision shooting. Maybe I could set up a range in my big backyard and " score shoot" at home. I also like the looks of the FX Royale 400 FT. Does FX offer a BR model? What caliber would be best? Accuracy and quietness seem to be priorities.
This seems to be my " go to " forum for ideas and help.
thanks

I've had both, and take it for what it's worth because I'm sort of an admitted FX Royale fan boy, but I'd take a Royale over a RAW. The RAW guns are quite heavy and unless you pay extra for a competition Barrel I believe they come standard with a lothar Walther Barrel which are nice but I prefer the smooth twist. If you're looking to strictly compete in bench rest, the RAW might be worth looking at since they make a dedicated benchrest gun but the Royale will in my opinion be a better all-around gun. I do not think FX makes a dedicated benchrest gun. There are some videos recently popping up online of people posting groups with their smooth twist barrels where they are putting a lot more than the standard five shots in one hole at 50 yards without having to sort pellets, etc. I haven't really seen any videos of people doing large shot groups into one hole with other types of barrels without having any fliers.

The RAW is more of a solid, no frills, all business rifle. You could drive fence posts with it, and then still shoot where you're aiming.

There is a reason the Royale is a lot lighter. I'll let you guess why :) And getting parts for FX rifles? AoA is your only hope. And parts are outrageous expensive.

You can get parts from RAW direct, and they are great to deal with. Plus, you can get it built any way you want from the get-go. New vs new prices, the difference isn't that great...

Either one will be a great accurate rifle that will serve you well. Just depends on what you value most in a rifle.

If burly build quality and great support, and barrel interchangeability are deciding factors, then RAW is your gun. If lightweight and a unique barrel are your goals, then the Royale is your gun. But I've never heard of anybody wanting a lighter weight benchrest rifle...

I'm not trying to put down FX rifles, I own a Cyclone and it's a great rifle. But it seems to be made of paperclips and soft brass. Accurate and efficient, but built well it's not.

.177 is kind of a waste of the rifle's capabilities unless you want to get involved in some 12 fpe activities. .22 is good for general use out to about 75 yds. If you want to shoot out to 100yds and beyond I would go minimum .25 and probably .30 even better.
The ballistic coefficient of airgun pellets is a lot lower than what you are probably used to and they run out of steam relatively quickly. Also, if you try to hot rod the .177 you'll find the pellet will have a hard time with the sonic/subsonic transition.

I'd get it in .22 and have it running at about 30fpe with 18gr pellets. That's assuming you want to hunt bigger than starlings and small birds. Long range is fun with a healthy .22

If you are strictly target shooting, there is absolutely no reason not to buy a .177. Set it around 19-20fpe with heavy pellets and it will be a great performer. Plus, you have the option of turning it down to 12fpe and getting a ridiculous shot count. It would also be a great rifle if you got into field target (and you should) :) And of course you can always hunt with a .177 at any power level. My most deadly guns have been .177 cals at peashooter power levels.

Just don't buy a .22 and then fall in love with Field Target. Then you are screwed lol...

You can always get a .20 caliber and throw everybody a curve ball!

Here look at what the RAW's did at our club this past month

RAW Crushes All Previous Club Records.....
This weekend saw a hole New Level of performance... All Due to the NEW Rapid Air Weapons Bench Rest Guns...these are for sure going to set the New Standards in Performance and Value. Best yet..Made in the Good old U.S.A..

The shooters at our club for the most part are new compared to the seasoned veterans in this sport. Granted, Airgun Bench Rest is pretty New.... but when you have a New shooter that shoots Her First 250 after only 3 matches... lets just says... it turns a few heads. Linda is not new to Shooting (started out a year ago). Here at Rio Solado we have an amazing about of Airgun related events every month and she takes advantage of All that is offered. Linda opted to shoot a BM500 (left Hand actions) with the New 177 Polygon Barrel... I think she was giving the rest of us a chance.. her targets were248 - 249 and then finishing with a 250-10x. In September Linda will be going to her first Nationals In Oxnard....We should keep an eye on this Lady...

The Next note worthy Performance was by Irwin, he is a dedicated shooter. Irwin just got his Upgraded BM500 with the New Indexable Polygon Barrel.. Yes.. Martin has come through again with an All new indexable barrel system to get every last ounce of performance needed for top level performance.... Irwin picked up his newly upgraded gun Memoral weekend and spent all 3 days in some secret location deep in the Mountains training for the Match

 He shot card #1 - 249 , Card #2 250, #3 249.. with a total of 748 - 47x.. that is just some great shooting.....

The top 6 places were all taken by RAW Heavy Varmint guns in 177. They all had the New Polygon Barrels. What is interesting to note, is that there are 3 different models that RAW makes..... There was the obvious BM500... but both Left Had and Right hand actions were used.. Ray H.. has one of the Only HM1000x's that has been converted to 177... and then there is Dave S.. he is shooting his Highly specialized Left Hand HM1000 in a Bench Rest stock....

Due to the Winds we have a Rio Solado our top scores are usually in the the High 730's with an occasional low 740. This weekend you had to score 740 or better just to be in the top 9 slots!!!! I am sure as our crew gains more experience they will over come that minor problem of reading the wind.....
From the scores this weekend its pretty obvious what is needed to place at the top in our club....

As for me .. I too shot a personal Best.... and I have to give all the credit to the New RAW Indexable Polygon Barrel system the Martin has developed to push the
sport to the next level....

Congratulations to all the shooters this weekend.....
