RAW REPORT

Dirte mentioned that he has 34X Athlons on his daystates.
My issue with scopes is that fine cross hairs are tough for me to see well. Do you find the fine cross hairs on the Athlons hard to pick up on a target or animal?
I've shot Hi-Power silhouette for many years and have always found a small black dot in the center of the cross hairs is best for me. I now have a Hawke Endurance that is what I like to see in cross hairs but I don't feel the glass is as good as I would like. I also have a Hawke Airmax that the glass seems good but it has thin cross hairs which get lost on some targets and game.
I'm lost and will need some ideas . I don't mind spending $500 to $600 on a scope I've just not had much experience with 30mm air gun scopes.
Any advice is appreciated.
Craig
It’s funny you bring up the reticle on the FFP scopes-the one complaint I came across on a few of the reviews of the scopes (I think on the Midway website?) was that the cross hairs were too THICK and prevented super precision shot placement-these few reviewers wanted a finer reticle as a result. Obviously I can’t speak first hand yet, but I thought of these comments when you asked your question. If that’s the case, they may work great for you.

"crgabel"When i look at these on the internet it looks as though the center hash marks are red or a lighter color. Are they really?
Sorry for the stupid questions but i have no Air gun suppliers near by and need to find suppliers on the net.
They are black when the illumination is turned off, and then something like 11 levels of intensity of red when illuminated. From what I read, the red isn’t really powerful enough for daytime use.

I have no real Airgun dealers around here either so I’m in the same boat, gets expensive buying and retuning stuff that’s not right then there is the wait time. Wish I had a place like UA or AOA around me.

So this is the Athlon 34X BTR reticle at 50 yards 2 inch targets. The reticle is definitely thicker than a SFP scope. Also don't judge the glass by this phone shot through the scope.

crgabel: The Athlon reticle is indeed thick at high magnification but is very easy to see. Without the IR turned on the entire reticle is turns red. It can be turned on bright enough to see well with during the daytime as well although I never did because I preferred the black. There is no dot in the center. Like you, I prefer a dot but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. The clarity of the glass is VERY good.

Hotbrass picked up a swfa 3 15 42 ffp ss on the past bf sale 25% off paid $525 I'm just getting to know it and it's great I like it a lot better than my MTC Viper or my Hawks scope the tracking is the best I've ever seen really digging the reticle 2 I'll definitely be buying more of these scopes .the aztec if guys like ken and jwr are endorsing this scope .for the price $400and the looks its on the radar..justin owner UA says promising stuff of AThlon pat

Not sure if a .22 is considered small. But my next gun will be in a .22 or .177. Most likely .22
Since I have the .30 I don't have the real need for a .25. But who knows maybe one day it might be an added collection.
I do know that the guys who has the .25 poly and the .30, loves to shoot the .25. The guys with the .30 feels there is no need for the .25. I have heard the .25 is easier to shoot. Heard it from Ken and from Steve on his video. Craig also loves his .25. Brian loves his .30, he gets under an inch unsorted pellets. Wow. Can't wait to stretch out mine to a hundred and see.
I say get something your going to shoot and use. If your not going to use the .30 much because of the .25 poly. Maybe get the barrel and swap over calibers since they are close to being the same.
