RAW REPORT

"Rey"Imold,
I am anxious to see how your new .30 shoots.
It actually might be a plus for me to move then. I got no gun clubs here. Me and a few friends just get together and shoot once every couple months. I am going to mis stepping out my front door and pulling the trigger.
So am I soon as this weather calms down.

i don’t think there is a Airgun club within 300-400 miles of my place and maybe a dozen folks with PCPs within a 3 State area and if there is more I haven’t found them and I wouldn’t doubt that I’m the only guy in MN,SD,ND that owns a AV compressor as far as I know. Heck I even bought 12.7 acres last spring and set up a range for Airguns, Powder Burners and Crossbows.
Maybe this remark will bring some out.

I actually have a stock RAW airgun for the most part
I did add carbon fiber over the barrel before it was poplar
this one is 25cal and shoots great
later on I used a different stock and I would like to update it to the picatinny rail
but for now I just use it as is ..

Rey,
I am also able to shoot in my back yard.
Even though I live in a subdivision, I have a large enough lot to set up a 25 meter bench rest range for myself.
Depending on municipality here, it is legal to shoot an airgun on private property as long as a pellet trap is used.
That is one of the big draws for me to airguns is coming home after a stressful day grab a cold beverage head out to the back yard for some precision shooting.
All that stress melts away!

"terrymc"Yes there are a lot of us here in Arizona.
I live in the Phoenix area and we have a very strong local Airgun club.
you can look it up at http://www.phoenixairgun.net
They have weekly indoor 10 meter shooting.
And monthly they have
Field Target matches,
25 meter matches,
Benchrest silhouette,
75 and 100 yard matches.
It is all done at the same location that Extreme Bench Rest is done, just N.E. of phoenix.
It is probably the strongest airgun group in the US.
If I am wrong guys don't take offense, I still marvel at how active they are 9 events in February alone.
And I have a hard time finding time to shoot 1 event a month.
I forgot to mention that they are all a great group that all want to help other shooters and the sport as well.
Does your club have a Facebook page? I would like to share some of the bench rest info with our club (BAGA) to hopefully start up a BR league there (Bristol, WI).

Hey Sean,
Sorry for the delay getting back to you, its been a long day.
So I did not know the answer to your question so I did some searching.
From what I can find it does not look like it.

No problem-I looked around on FB after asking and only found references to the club on FB, but no official site (which is fine-so was just curious). Norma web pages are just fine.

Thanks for getting back to me though!

Terry,
25m. What kind of gun you shoot at 25meters? Is it your raw?
These guns are so accurate that at 25 meters it's going to be literally 1 whole the size of a pellet. I have never seen an actual pellet gun competition and this year I will get to be at the ebr!!!!
Now I have to go to a range to stretch the legs on this raw. I am not looking forward to that. We don't have a gun range where I live so that's the big draw towards an air gun.
Once a month on a competition. Sounds like fun. I wonder if the wife will let me attend.

hi Rey,
Yes I shoot the Raw. I shot it the first time at a match a couple of weeks ago.
So 25 meter competition you have to shoot a Target 2 mm in diameter for a 10 Ring shot from a distance of 82 ft away or 25m.
2 mm is just over one sixteenth of an inch. for each round you have to shoot 25 targets inside of 20 minutes. You have three rounds that you have to shoot for a total of 75 targets worth 10 points each so a total possible score of 750.
These matches are shot Outdoors our range normally has winds running anywhere up 15 to 20 mile-an-hour shifting from left to right throwing your shots sometimes well over an inch. The good shooters use 4-6 wind flags as the wind is different across the whole course.
The the challenge of this shooting is mostly the wind judging it, judging any shift in direction or speed which is always changing, timing your shots with the Wind judging your hold over or under and doing it within a time constraint.

Even a 9 ring shot is only .31 in in diameter so both of those are easy to miss with the Wind.

My last match which was only my second match I scored a 697 which is an okay score nothing 2 brag about. To do that I hit the 10 Ring right at 50% of the time and still had a score that low.

A friend of mine that I was talking to last night showed me his card from Tucson last week where he scored a 743 out of a possible 750 which meant he only missed the 10 Ring 7 times out of 75.
Each of those seven times would still have to be a 9 ring shot to get that score.
To put that in further perspective that is 99% of a perfect score that is great shooting.

25 meter competition is an extremely challenging and fun sport hopefully you get to try it sometime I'm having a blast with it.

If you want to try it at home go to the website that I linked earlier and they have Targets on there that you can print out yourself and layout of course at your house and give it a try it's a lot of fun.
Here is a link to the target page.

Hopefully this information sucks a bunch of other shooters into this challenging sport.

Well, I finally pulled out the bench rest and shot some groups with it today after work, using the .30 cal and shooting 4 groups with the 44.75 grain and 4 groups with the 50.15 grain pellets (5 shots, at 50 yards)-to say I’m pleased is an understatement! I haven’t measured them all yet, but here are two groups-one from the heavies (the lower to the right group), one from the lites (the higher group)

Here’s the setup:

Overall comparison (heavies on the left). Note: the one flier was me trying to continue a group after having to reload my magazine and readjust my gun-I shouldn’t have tried to do that so I’m mentally discounting the ‘flyer’ as it was clearly my doing.

Edit: added more groups now that they’ve been measured. Some of them are hard to decipher due to paper tearing and shooting through the same hole!

Sean

Really Nice stuff Sean!
I am headed out back to shoot my .22 RAW for the first time in a week and a half.
If I do well tonight, I may get up early to go shoot another match this saturday. This will be my third match.
We shall see, busy schedule this week and I still need to clean the barrel on the gun, a little more detailed clean than just
a few draw through patches since I have let it go too long between cleanings. I should have cleaned it
after the last match but did not have time.

"Rey"Terry,
That does sound challenging. I called Martin today and asked about his .22 polygon.
I may see you on a competition one day

Sounds good, I will save you a bench. Ha, ha.

So you said you were considering moving to Az. is that in the plans or are we still exploring.
I saw where you said you were planning to be at EBR.
