RAW REPORT

Got bored with beautiful weather and being able to shoot all the time.
So I decided to do some work that I wanted to do to the 22 RAW.

Short version.
I HATE THE STOCK TRIGGER GUARD ON THE SPORTER STOCK!

Long version (which I am known for)
The stock trigger guard on the sporter stock wraps around and hits my trigger finger on the bottom half of my finger.
Also the finger groove is too narrow and high for my hands.
Disclaimer, I wear XXXL gloves so this may not apply to all you guys that have wimpy hands. LOL just kidding.

So I bit the bullet and got out my dremel, a round wood rasp, and some sand paper.
Here are the results.

Before.
You can see where the trigger guard wraps around the trigger opening and comes up half way the opening.
Also you can see the ridge that drives me nuts in the finger groove back to the grip opening.

So here you can see the modified opening.
The rear side of the trigger opening is now open all the way down, and the finger groove is wide enough for man size fingers.

OMG what a difference.
I hated the feel before, I was literally shooting with my finger barely touching the trigger so I did not have a ridge
pressing into my finger.
Now it is bliss, I can make good contact with the trigger and not have discomfort.
As you can see all the edges have been radiused to match the stock contours that were original.

Now for a couple pictures in the wild.
This little 22 polygonal has quickly become my favorite gun.
Between the amazing accuracy, (better than my 30 RAW LRT) and the incredible shot count now that my tuner is done with it.
I sat down after working on it, and resighted her in and right away had it shooting 10X shots.
My wife came over shot a single shot and shot a 10X.
And after she shot I shot a 3 shot group that was a single pellet hole opening at 25 meters that was again a 10X shot.
MAN I LOVE THIS GUN!

"Uglyjohn"Nice job terrymc! What did you use to re-finish the part of the stock affected by the reshaping project? Uj

I have not refinished that area yet.
I intend to strip and refinish the whole stock in the near future so this reshaping did
not scare me from the finishing stand point.

I will be using Macarri's Royal London Oil.
It gives a surprising amount of depth to the laminate stocks.

Sean

"Hynzie"awesome shooting
Thanks Pat! Obviously I need to work on the mental side a bit and not look at the target while I'm actually shooting. I did a good job ignoring things for shots 2-4 but, once I saw how they were landing, I totally lost focus (in my excitement) and blew it badly on the last shot! On the bright side: having that 'flyer' near the group gave a very clear point of perspective to guage just how tiny that group is when looking at the clear holes in the wood photo!

Wow you guys have been busy!
First off nice shooting Sean and will let the Tea pass this time hahaha and also I wish I could still ski, nothing like going on the snowmobile trails with the 10/22 slinged on your back waiting for a chance to shoot something eatable..
Nice job on reaming out the trigger area terrymc it look real nice just like it came that way, I wouldn’t even try that, heck i measure a 2x4 3 times and I still can cut it to short and as you know they don’t make board stretchers yet.....Nice Job!!
