Hey guys, spring has FINALLY arrived in MI and I’m getting reacquainted with my shooting bench.

Today’s RAW report: Mounted a new Athlon Helos 8-34x on my .30 cal LRT. Love the Athlon reticle and FFP is where it’s at. Sighted in at 75 yards and experimented with my technique. Results were typical RAW - amazing. Shot 75 yard groups and all were 3/4” or less. Here’s the two best of the day. JSB 44.75 gn at 875-880 fps.

Cheers!

Brian / @airgunner.usa

Sweet shooting Brian! Excellent work, and beautiful gun too! I too love the FFP reticle and really like the Athlon 8-34 scope-very nice choice for that amazing gun!

Question: all those groups were reported as CTC or OTO? I believe it's CTC, but just wanted to confirm....

Oh yeah, if you want to measure with software, download the 'SubMOA' app for the iPhone...

Hi Sean, I measure OTO then subtract pellet diameter. So yes, all groups are reported as CTC. I’ll definitely check out that app!

"Sell682"
"terrymc"Sell,
How do you like the Accutac bipod?
I see it on your RAW, I have been contemplating getting one.
I am very happy with the Accutac Sr5 bipod. It’s built like a tank and has a wider stance than the atlas psr bipod. This bipod only has CANT capabilities but that is fine for me as I hardly PAN anyways. It’s a very sold platform and once locked in, it will not come loss unless you want it too. Similar stability to a front mechanical benchrest.

Perfect Sell,
I will wind up getting one at some point probably soon.
Since the class I will shoot for 100 yard will not allow mechanical front rest. (Hunter Class)
Price is right and they do look solid.
Thx,
Terry

Nice shooting Brian, you guys are really starting to hurt my feelings with all these pics of awesome groups and also the scope reviews have been great but up north the wind has been against me for the last week, can’t seem to get a day where it isn’t around 15-20 mph during the day the only good thing is my property is nice and dried out now, I need to get some new backers for my paper targets being the winter kind of got to them but hopefully I’ll get out soon and see if my 30can still do this.

As you seen on my last pic I put that Aztec 5.5-25x50 back on the HMx and hopefully I can duplicate what it did a year ago and maybe even get it a bit tighter at 100 yards if possible, I’m still looking for a higher end FFP for it but really haven’t made up my mind on what to get thats under 600.00 dollars so I’m open to suggestions? I’ve tried a couple that were 400 and less but want something a bit better. And with all that said at least I’m getting my spring cleaning done as I wait for the afternoon winds to die down so I can get some real shooting in.

Hey guys,
I am going to cross pollinate the threads here.

Sean posted up the software he uses for his group sizing on his .25 cal shootout thread.

It is submoa for Iphone users.

I am an android user so I searched for submoa since a lot of app builders will build for both and unfortunately it is not available for android
However for us android fans there is Range Buddy.
It is easy to use and give great results just like the ones you see with Seans postings.
Here is an example.

I did the micometers for a long time but this gives some great data similar to Orions match scoring system.
It is also easy to share results as it has a share tab and you can email to yourself or text to a friend.

Some of the higher end Athlon scopes would be great candidates (above the Helos BTR model), but I think they are a little over that price point (wait for a 15% off sale on Midway?). The only downside is some of those models don’t focus below like 25 yards, so they’re not ideal if shooting close.

@imold

I sold the 8-32x Elite 4200 off of my .30 RAW and replaced it with an Athlon 8-34x FFP and have zero regrets. It’s a fairly heavy scope, but the glass is good and the reticle is..awesome. Did a 75 yard bench rest match with it on a very windy day and the reticle was a huge asset. It’s at the top of your price range at $600, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Happy scope hunting!

Just to be clear (Brian), at that price point, I think you're referring to the Athlon Helos BTR (FFP) 8-34 x 56 scope, correct? That one runs just shy of $600. The Argos (being similar) is in the upper $380's, if I'm not mistaken? I would opt to go with the Helos myself for the locking turrets...
