Recommend me a Med to High end compact scope.

I'm looking for something with the same size factor as the TacVector 3-12 FFP. I have the Tac and it's a decent scope but the glass is kinda hazy when compared to my Dedal Stalker. It's going on a carbine size airgun.

Here are my required checkboxes:

  • Similar size as TacVector 3-12 FFP.
  • First Focal Plane
  • Millirad settings.
  • Parallax down to at least 10 yards.
  • A really nice mil reticle. Something like the H9 but maybe not quite as busy.
  • Illuminated reticle.
  • Variable zoom. Min 10x, more ideal 15-20x
  • Good quality glass. Not necessarily ED or HD as that's getting expensive.
  • Around $1,000 is where I max out.

I drool over the Eotech Vudu 5-25 scope. That scope is sexy enough to arouse me. But it doesn't focus down under 25yards so its use would be very limited.

Yes - turrets on the Stalker leave a lot to be desired, and you won't be range finding with the focus knob either. It's a totally utilitarian scope, which is why it shines. That glass is so dang clear, anyone who has looked through it has commented. The reticle is very nice and the illumination is very good.

JWilson - it sounds like you and I are seeking the same goal. Please let me know what you think about the TS12. Particularly how the reticle compares with the Stalker at 6x. The reticle on the Tac 3-12 is so fine that at anything under 8x it can get lost on a black target.

Thing is the Stalker is super simple without some frills. It is a 6X superb holdover optic period. I love them. They are my #1 optic for my AR too👊🏻 They are super clear and bright with a very good and accurate reticle. They are hard to beat for a hunting / pesting scope at normal airgunning ranges. Thing is airguns are setting a new normal as is the ammo available today.

I just finished filming my US Optics TS-12 review and it's a Winner ...But the one I have is the Triplex reticle . It is a LEAP above the Tac and Discovery compacts.

I really like the little Discovery compact and your reviews. Based on your comment ordered the US Optics TS-12x MHR which is currently discounted to a little less than $400 (twice as much as the Discovery though) @ scopelist. Thanks to Marco25 for that tip. I also liked where one reviewer said it the parallax will go down to 8 yards. That is one of the things I really like about the Discovery version.

ctcshooter,

In the Scope Specs List linked below there are a number of compact scopes — however it seems the scope manufacturers have yet come to terms with this segment of the market — airgun bullpup users, that also want 10y min. parallax and a holdoff reticle, and maybe no caps on the turrets, etc.

The Specs List's got a limit of around $500. I see you're able to pay more, that's great.

You mention the Eotech Vudu 5-25x50, with the dumb 25y parallax.... 😟

Well, the $2000 saved on the Eotech could almost get you a March 3-24x42 — 10y, FFP, Mil/Mil, IR, 12.3" short. 😄

Happy shopping!

Matthias

You had me looking at the March scopes until I saw the price - I couldn't go there unless I was shooting in competition. That's some pricey glass.

When I saw your thread title last night my first thought was the announced March 1-10x24 Shorty FFP. But unless March is also introducing it under a yet to be announced line of budget scopes it is unlikely to meet your budget requirements. Or mine for that matter.

Oh that March 1-10x24 is really sweet looking. The D10V24TIML model really ticks every box except for the FFP, and the hit to my back pocket.

The MTC Connect 3-12x24 is probably the closest match at a more reasonable price tag. I have one of these I use on my Leshiy and I really like it except for the SFP. I can deal with MOA, but prefer the simplicity of Mil.

Well I think the D10SV24FIML is a very similar scope but in FFP.

Same or worse hit to the back pocket expected, however.
