Yes a R9 and Hw95 are the same power plant. They sometimes vary in accoutrements. If we're talking gray or red fox squirrels they're tough. If you're seriously shooting them at 50 yards skip the Hw50 and go the 95. I use a 177 HW50 for them but I've learned to keep my shots inside of 40 yards. Fifty yards is possible with the Hw50 if you can get a good head shot. A good head shot at 50 yards is beyond my practical springer skills. I have to go for the body at that range and a Hw50 won't do it cleanly, if at all. I have my doubts that a 22 Hw50 would penetrate at all at 50 yards. Yes I've owned one and kept the 177. Even at fifteen yards my 22 Hw50 never had an exit wound. My 177 does.

Get Both. The HW50S in .177 and the R9 in 22 cal. The difference between the R9 and the HW95 is the finish on the stock ( I think ). The R9 and the HW50S have a finished glossy clear coat. Might be polyurethane or a high gloss stain. Very durable, looks good. The HW95 looks like it has a low gloss finish, ( less shiny ) but I don't personally have 1 of those so I'd be a bit skeptic with that. The HW50S .177 really surprised me by how flat and hard it hits and it is phenominally accurate. And my R9, in 22cal, I got from Flying Dragon Air Rifles. Gone over by Mr Mike Melnick there. It is so smooth and so accurate that I am beyond satisfied or pleased. I'm floored . So like I said, get both.

Coastal drifter, how is the comb height on the 95 using the Williams sight?
I have a 95 Luxus, I believe same stock. The stock is really set up for a scope. I tried to shoot Irons and had to smash my face into the stock, put a scope on it. Many people feel the same way, may depend on the persons facial structure, but it did not work for me.
