Does this crown need help?

Your rifle ing looks good. I've always had a lathe to do crowns, but I'd try the do it yourself method for a airgun. I think the guy who makes AVS slugs has some good videos doing crowning using hand tools. The crown in the previous post looks great that method would be ok. Don't be scared you can't make.it worse. Some airgun the crown is how the saw blade fell on the blank.lol

Never done a recrown before. Would appreciate good DIY methods.

Check out Manson Reamers online, they sell a crowning tool that has a guide rod that tightens inside the bore for aligning the cutter with the bore and you then use a cordless drill to cut the crown. it works very well. I think they call it the Military rifle kit, it comes with everything needed for one caliber of your choice.....the .22 cal. guide rod will also work for .25

Here is a Mason Crown Cutter I use with my Lathe...
But it can Also be done by hand-crank or power screwdriver!!
It will cut a perfect 11 degree target crown Every time!!

Barrel guide for .22, the bore brush is to remove chips when you remove the guide rod

Barrel mounted in my Lathe chuck, with the guide rod in place.

Making some chips... Notice the fine Threads of metal shavings...the Unique cutting of the Mason Crowning System...

Here the results, before the final cosmetic polish..

Thanks to all for the info on the Mason & PTG cutters. Mason is beyond my budget but I could do the PTG. Unfortunately my bench top lathe headstock ID is too small for the barrel to pass thru.

But you still have to deburr after using the kit. I like the 11 degree cutter the best but even new cutters dont pass the cotton ball test.

The real deal with Manson is that the cutters dont chatter, they stay seated and give you a great cut. I use my lathe with carbide tooling to set the crown then I use my tool post with a die grinder and a polishing burr to deburr the crown and give it a smooth surface and edge.
