Red Dots. moa

I never had a red dot nor the need. My handguns are mainly carry guns and irons are ok for the intended short range use.
When I bought my air pistol I saw the need. I usually go cheap at first and did with this Vlife. It is .
It does work just has some ghost images of the red circle that I don’t use appearing sometimes. The dot also seems
a bit elongated a tiny bit to the left, bothersome. It’s worth the $50 to learn about them I guess.
I did get lucky because I chose a 1 moa which was harder to find for sale. There was a lot of 3 moa
but would have completely covered the target. I dim the image as much as possible.

What’s a good one? Do you need to spend several hundred for it?

A few things of note...

That ghosting or trailing off on one edge of the red dot may be an eye stigmatism. It is fairly common to discover you.have it when seeing red dots sights for the first time I have it, and it does ghost the bottom edge with all the red dot sights that I have. It goes away or changes if you squint, and that's how I figured out my $50.00 ADT sight wasn't "bad".

Your definition and other's definition of a "good red dot" will vary based on multiple factors. I'd say a truly parallax free red dot is "good" for our intended uses (accurate hunting and target shooting) with a 2 moa or smaller dot. Most red dots advertise as being parallax free, but seldom truly are parallax error free.

I discovered that my new "parallax free" red dot pistol sight, Holosun HS507C-X2, is not really parallax free, having a fairly large parallax error at 10 yards. And in researching this discovery, found this video by Cuda...

I have a stigmatism and did a lot of research before buying my first and only reflex sight. I ended up going with the Gideon Omega green dot. This is the only dot sight I own, but the green does help with ghosting compared to when I look through my buddies red dot. The Gideon has an outer ring around the dot as well. They claim a 3 moa dot but looks more like a 2. Very clean looking at medium illumination. Good luck

I like the red dot's with the outer rings as well. It helps with critter acquisition and target centering.

Dear blackdog -

Your inexpensive dot sight is "NOT"...a 1 minute dot size. It "adjusts" with 1 minute clicks".
Currently...the ONLY...1 minute dot diameter sight that I've seen is the EOTech line of "Holographic" sights. And they are NOT cheap. They run in the $600+ to $700+ range !

As to what others have said about your apparent astigmatism, they are most likely correct. Some red dot sights work better than others with this problem...but.

But your BEST solution is to get a "Prism" sight. They work VERY well when the shooter has any sort of an astigmatism, minor or major. They are sort of a cross between a dot sight and a scope. Just BE SURE to follow the instructions !!!

Here's a good brand. They have a few options. They come with a full option of mounting heights, and all fasteners required. This is just one brand of a few.

Sorry it is a 2 moa dot with a 30 moa circle around if selected. Hard to find a 1 moa, 2’s are more readily available.
For target shooting a small dot is necessary

Yeah...not so much...

That brand has a 2moa, 3moa and a 6moa dot. NO 1...moa dot listed, unless they made you a custom sight !! That would MUCH more expensive than $131! Read the info . All of the sight bodys similar to yours...NONE are 1moa.
