Daystate Red Wolf barrel change - 2 Questions..

HI folks.
I am going to get a Red Wolf, probably in 22 HP. I have a Wolverine HP R in .177. I understand that new a caliber/barrel change will require programming/Heliboard. I also understand that it will require new pellet probes and barrel adapter (not sure what it is called). So these are givens.

My. First question…. Can I use the .177 barrel in the Red Wolf. ?

Second question, can I change the RW .22 to a RW .25?

Aof A has the barrels and probes and barrel breech item. I am just wondering if the orafice supplying the puff of air for actually firing the pellet will be sufficiently adequate, OR……….Do I need to BEGIN with a .25 caliber and then purchase the .22 bbl.

If barrel length changes, so will the shroud need changing.

Personally WOULD NOT go .25 cal as your likely to be disappointed in the power. Unless also upgrading to the HP valve system unless so equipped

If the rifle is .22 HP, won’t that work for the .25?.

.17 HP to .25 .... not been inside a .177 HP, so don't know ?

The 25 and 30 are the same and are the largest porting on both the frame and valve. The 22 is slightly smaller and the 177 smaller yet. Starting with a 25 will give best results for caliber switching because of this. The valve and frame CAN be drilled out but it will be a pretty delicate operation on the valve. This applies to the HP with 23" barrel. I'm fairly certain that the Wolverine R HP uses the same size barrel as a RW but the Standard and HP are not the same. The Standard has a smaller diameter breech end and the barrels are shorter and standard rifled where the HP is polygonal.
Note that the tuning will be different if you have a 177 with original porting vs a 25 cal switchout to 177. With a HELIBOARD, caliber switch isn't difficult but you might have to spend some time tuning it to get the shot string flat on each power level/intended caliber and projectile. Once tuned, you swap the barrel and probe and switch to your tuned power level. There are 12 independent power levels in the HELIBOARD vs 3 in the DS board.

Thanks for a very detailed response to my questions. That makes it easy for me to understand. You addressed my concerns and suspicions of having, or not having enough air for the 25 When using a .22 original rifle. Sounds like Heliboard will be required for the caliber changes for sure.

Heliboard isn't REQUIRED. You either have to buy a programmer, or take it to someone with one. @Spray1Mark wrote a detailed thread on using the programmer. it's worth reading if you're contemplating going that route.

The Heliboard is just more convenient and a little less expensive than the programmer...

Thanks for the link. I’ll read that post. I am inclined to get the heliboard for the convenience of 12 settings. And, the cost of that vs a programmer. However, when the time comes, I will decide them. It is always good to have the options. Now that I know I am looking for a .25 to begin with.
