Red Wolf is not grouping ??

HI all

So my Daystate Red Wolf HP has been amazing of late , and actually I think recently it's even better than it has been . The gun has been shooting out of its skin , I have really really enjoyed shooting lately . So a couple of weeks ago I spent a whole weekend shooting slugs and seeing what is the best through my Gun . I know this gun can easily nail Sub inch groups a 100 yards , its done it a whole bunch of times and on camera . So why o why did it suddenly stop grouping ?? I know it shot lots and lots of slugs through it but I cleaned the barrel big time and charged the batteries to make sure its bang on , So why one day its Sub inch with slugs and the next day its much much bigger ? Does seem odd ?? I clean my guns all the time ( I am just odd and love cleaning guns ) and the barrel is clean as a whistle , I know how many shots it takes to come back after a clean so it should be bang on now ?? I checked the O rings and they look fine to me , I checked it over a chrono and its the same speed , 974 with 27 or 28 grain slugs , They work a treat and yet it groups really badly still . So anyone else had this ? One day its spot on , the next its all over the show ?? I think I have tried everything so far ???

Assuming nothing mechanical, as faulty or loose scope, loose barrel or moderator, etc then it almost has to be the barrel. How have you cleaned it? If you have not scrubbed it good with rod and brush, that would be my recommendation. I would remove barrel and breech seal and scrub thoroughly in the chamber area, and also near the muzzle. With the barrel off, and using a good light, you may see some leading somewhere that is simply stubborn to remove.

If there was a change in pellets or slugs, that could be informative too.

I have powder burners and have had for 14 years , yes I know how to clean a gun and what to use . It's not the barrel , its not the scope , its not the magazine , these I know are bang on . Just seems so damn odd that it was working a treat ( the best it has ever been ) and then suddenly it just said no . I gave it a quick bore snake to get the worst of it out , thinking that maybe that might work , I stuck some slugs I know that it loves , Pro Hunter and Wildman and these were grouping sib inch easily as said . The weather was lovely , at 50 yards the group was not great , moved to100 and it was shocking . Such a shame . The gun has been amazing , I loved shooting it but now I am turning to my Impact because I know that works .... sort of .

I found out that the grouping is really bad after cleaning, up to the point where you think that something must be wrong with it. Luckily I read about this happening to another RW owner too, so I kept re-leading it, and the accuracy came back eventually!

This isn't totally without merit, but the seasoning of a barrel after cleaning is typically only a few shots before accuracy is either restored, or well on the way. At least that is my experience.

I'd try a diferent scope...just incase.

I agree. Before you get too aggressive cleaning the barrel and mess something up - this ain’t no .45-70 shooting cast bullets. I’d sure throw on another scope just to make sure the one normally mounted on it hasn’t gone bad. A broken scope properly mounted is still a broken scope.

Did you take the moderator off and put it back on? Just a thought? I have had debris and lead flakes between the barrel end and moderator shim them out of center, especially if it’s a tight fit to begin with? Just look at all the simple things first! It took me awhile to learn, it doesn’t have to necessarily touch to go crazy? Just too close can do it, with some of mine anyway🤞🏼Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I am experiencing exactly the same issues with my Safari. Groups opened up so I cleaned the barrel. I checked the fps and no change in 5 months. I compared the groups of pellets and slugs and only the RD have changed. The slugs are still the same. However, not as accurate as the RD were.

RD , washed and lubricated and weighed, now give me 6" groups at 50 yards. My July records show .625" groups at 50. Same batch as before, same everything except for a new O ring.
I look forward to hearing about your results after a change in rings and/or scope.
