Refinished BSA Stutzen stock

Got a nice original duplicate. Ha! It's not walnut. Pictures aren't the best. But you should be able to get the idea. The sheen only looks right in the center of the pictures? IDK. The overall picture look very dark. Oh well. I don't get too involved with photo shoots.

But seriously, my friend. I’m a very kind and helpful person. If ever you want to try it PM me and I will call when I have a minute to discuss the process I used. It’s not the easiest stock finish method but gives a factory like finish on beech. You need a small spray gun and a place to “paint” with it. Overspray is messy and I don’t think you want to stink up your house with solvents. My shop is separate from the house.

I assume the refinish involved re-staining; in itself rife with pitfalls. But beyond that, very few non-professionals can achieve such excellent results. Especially getting the soft-satin luster I find immensely more aesthetically pleasing than shiny bling. You nailed it!

Not to change the subject, but the best squirrel hunt I ever had was with a .22 BSA Stutzen in the 1980s. I loved that rifle so much I shot thousands of rounds through it offhand before that hunt, including in NRA (offhand) Silhouette competition. Virtue of that volume of offhand shooting, my strong hunting instincts, but equally strong aversion to any suffering of prey, I adopted brain shots almost exclusively. Certainly when probable.

In a couple hours I got 9 squirrels with 11 shots, 8 of which were brain shots. Purposely took a heart/lung shot on one at 60 yards.

The terminal ballistics were quite interesting. Shooting 14 grain(ish) Eley Wasp domed pellets about 600 FPS, in every instance (brain and body shots) the pellet stopped under the skin off-side of entry; meaning every iota of energy was dumped in the prey. Very effective hunting terminal ballistics that are also common (nowadays) with air pistols.
