Tuning Reg creep and the Power Wheel

I have a MKII and haven't experienced any reg creep, but the rifle is new. If the reg creeps for the first few shots and returns to normal after that, with a little trial and error could the Power Wheel be used to compensate for the first couple of shots? If I get the creep and it stays minute of crow or magpie out to 50 yards or so I'm not too concerned. When I change Power Wheel settings I usually cycle the cocking arm 5-10 times to settle the spring prior to shooting. IE, cock it and then hold down the trigger while I ease it closed.

You say your rifle is new. Then why not just get the m3 for the same price? I would have gone with the m3. I heard the dual reg fixed the reg creep problem and I've seen ppl with m3 get 4 fps spread over 50 plus shots. Thats amazing imo. My mk2 has about 15 fps spread. My gun is 2 years old, and it creep about 5-8 bars. Fps will go down about 20 fps on the first shot. Not enough imo for under 50 yards. But if you shoot out to 100 yards, it will affect poi. I always dry fire 2 time before I got out shooting.

Corvid Hunter,

I have a Royale 400 that has regulator creep, it also has a power wheel.

The first shot of the day is always a dry fire on the lowest power setting (so I don’t waste as much air and less noise). That one shot is enough to relieve the excess pressure of the reg creep and all subsequent shots that day will be a normal velocity.

So yes your idea should work.

New as in 2 tins of pellets through it so far. The M3 was not available when I bought it (not even announced) and likely won't be available here in Canada (25cal) for several months yet.

Reg creep has nothing to do with the power wheel it is caused by debris or imperfections in the regulator o-rings or sealing surfaces. That is why they call it reg creep. Firing off a shot or two, after it has sat for a while while creeping, will usually take care of it, until the next shooting session, as it makes the regulator return to it's normal position. When it gets bad enough then the reg can be removed, cleaned and and new o-rings installed. This is likely to solve the problem. Reg creep can happen more often when the reg is stressed to near it's limits adjustment wise.

Usually not something you have to worry about with a new gun.

I have had plans to try exactly what you are asking with my .30 cal M2. But, I recently went on a three-day hunt with some PB friends where we (I) was popping squirrels in the head at a fixed 85 yards. The next morning I was worried about reg creep on the first shot, but my friends would have been upset if I pre-fired and made noise so I worried silently and didn't pre-fire.

What I learned from the pros in the past paid off. If you tune the gun 3 to 5 percent below the max for a given set point, you won't have to concern yourself with minor or normal reg creep. To my surprise, the next mornings first headshot was spot on, and the following morning, too. So, you can tune out any normal or small reg creep of around 10 bar, typically. Give it a try. If I see my reg creeping up substantially more than normal, I rebuild the reg, which is fairly easy to do when watching Earnest Rowe's YT channel. Give it a try.
