Rekindled Affection

My first PCP was the Benjamin maurader. 22 that I purchased back in 2014. I have a love hate relationship with this gun as it was one that had a barrel of questionable accuracy. It has taken many squirrels at closer ranges, but wouldn't trust it past 30 yards and only took chest shots.

I was looking for a low cost PCP to leave at my parents house for pesting duties, and decided to give the Mrod another chance. However. I was going to get it with the barrel/picatinny rail upgrade. I have been pretty impressed with the accuracy and consistency out of this new gun, so I fitted it with my SWFA 12x scope and seg zero at 25 yards.

Today I picked up my hunting license and thought I would put her to the test.

I ended up takin 3 squirrels, two only took 1 shot, while one moved the instant I pulled the trigger causing me to spine him and followed up with a quick head shot. The long shot of the day was 55 yards, which was the one I shot twice.

I also took a groundhog at 35 yards prone. It turned out to be a very successful day.

This has made me come to enjoy this new variation of the Mrod, and wished they put the LW barrels in all their Mauraders.

I have a new crossman made barrel coming for my older Mrod, which I think I am going to sell after I get it swapped out to help fund another swfa scope.

Top picture the pellet entered above keister and came through the top of his skull where it stopped just under the skin.

I cannot believe that pellet went the entire length of the squirrel, that’s wild.

great day.

That particular squirrel was at 25 yards. I was kind of surprised with that one as well. I have had simular results with 25 & 30 cal., but they had a lot more energy behind the pellet. I must have put it through all of the soft vitals, which allowed for that kind of penetration.
