Results from shooting 3 different types of pellets - Mixed Results

This evening, I bought a tin of .22 JSB Straton pellets from Penchetta up in North Scottsdale. I had always wanted to try the Stratons but could never find them until today. I got home with only 45 minutes of daylight remaining so I setup a target at 17 yards and proceeded to shoot 4 three shot groups of the following pellets:
  • JSB Straton Jumbo Diabolo 15.89 gr (5.50mm head size)
  • JSB Exact Jumbo Diabolo 15.89 gr (5.52mm head size),
  • JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy Diabolo 18.13 gr (5.52mm head size).
Test Parameters:
  • The rifle used was a .22 DayState Air Wolf Tactical on Power 2 (low power)
  • The scope was a Hawke Sidewinder 30 SF 8-32x56 set on 32 power
  • I aimed for the center of each dot for all shots
  • I never adjusted the windage or elevation during the entire soot
  • I started the test at 200 bar and ended at 181 bar.
Groupings:
The top row shows the results from shooting the JSB Straton. .The numbers representing the shot order. The bottom row are the results of shooting the JSB Jumbos.

The picture below shows the groupings using the JSB Jumbo Heavy pellets. As you can see these were the most accurate or the 3 different pellets.Note is was getting dark and I had difficulty seeing the target for the last 2 groups.

I'm guessing it's a combination of both the head size and shape that make the Straton unstable in my rifle. As far as the new barrel, it doesn't appear to have made much of a difference to be honest. Both the Wolverine B Hi-Lite and MK4 Target shot with higher accuracy and consistency compared to my Wolf. I'm giving it time to break in to see if anything improves.

Thought I found the magic pellet until I got to the end of the tin. Had an older tin of the JSB 15.8 gr and my Cricket Carbine loved it. Ordered a sleeve but the newer tins have all gone to 15.89 gr. You would think the .09 would not make that much of a difference but I guess it did. The diameter was the same. My shots were all over the place. Fighting the wind also, so I was having trouble figuring out if it was me, lost zero, or the pellet. I had just read your posted and decided to try a few different pellets that I had. Should have thought of it sooner but…… The JSB 18.13, like for you, were working the best. Still fighting the wind but was able to place the shot adjusting for the wind. I was holding over 1 mil up and 1 mil to the right and then on the next line of targets I was holding under 1 mil and 1 mil to the left. Then, the next line 2 mil dots to the left. When the wind would stopped, I had to shoot the cross hairs dead center. Probably great practice for a competition. I guess that's shooting.
I have heard that lot numbers used to really effect accuracy. Would you or others suggest buying one tin and see if the gun shoots that lot true then order as much as you can with that lot number or is this just being superstitious.
