I think I have posted that I stepped into the CO2 world a short time ago.
Having a great time with the Clone shooting in my garage.
Sooooo stopped off at the local drug store/sporting goods/kitchen goods/clothing store etc etc to buy some 177 pellets. Found tins of Crossman premiers 7.9 gr for about $14.00 and grabbed a tin. When I got to the register they asked for my ID. “What for?“ I asked. For the pellets. Are you kidding me? Carded for a tin of pellets?!?!?!

Is this normal?

I'm in Canada...

I was shopping in the local hardware store, bought a (full sized) axe and a packet of BBs. I could wander around the store with the axe - no problem - but not the BBs, had to pick them up at the customer service cash.

Wearing a T-shirt, bathing trunks and sandals there's no way I could conceal a gun to put the BBs but the clerk said the the rules stated a customer could not have any sort of ammunition in the store. 🙄

Don't get me started about stupid rules/regulations 🤨

Really? I live in Hamilton on the west side and if I buy a gun in bob wards they walk that to the front. Last time I bought 22 LR ammo they didnt walk it up front but thats been awhile. I order my pellets, rimfire and load all my other ammo so I never buy in store these days. Maybe its changed around here as well.

Local Home Hardware has all the airgun stuff on open shelves but actual powderburner ammo and stuff is all locked up and has to be taken to the counter. But then again it might just be because I live in a small town instead of a big city.

Guessing that your store/chain (as most) just has a blanket policy since better safe than sorry instead of trying to teach somebody the difference between firearm ammo and airgun ammo and running afoul of a law.

Yes I did. I thought for a minute to not buy them on the principal. I had bought several tins a while back at another location and no ID was required. So not a state law or regulation, just a store policy.
Will I buy from this seller again? No. There is a Walmart just down the road a few miles. This particular place is less than 1/2 mile from my house.

It's just store policy. Where's the rub?

Lots of items have to have ID or be checked out differently. It's not a conspiracy. It's just the business trying to control their liability.

Dont worry. This isn't oppression. It's just business. The world has lost it's collective mind. People steal stuff and do stupid things in retail stores. Companies have to control merchandise or its not profitable to sell it. The person at the counter is just doing what their employer demands.

It's not really that much extra trouble is it?

It’s nonsense, what does it accomplish? Absolutely nothing. make you jump through a hoop to buy an absolutely legal product. It isn’t just business , some ahole decided it was gonna make us all safe tracking these purchases. Meanwhile, here in Ohio, everybody & his brother are out on the street, in their car smoking weed.

Maybe you should hire a lawyer? Organize a protest?

"They" are definitely picking on you and forcing you to humiliate yourself to make a purchase. It's un-American is what it is!

You must fight this pellet oppression. A true patriot would not allow himself to be humiliated like this!

Bear in mind that it could also be a store policy geared more to prevent shoplifting than anything else. After all, BBs and pellets are a prime item for young males, and sadly they are probably the group most likely to shoplift. And once they have such a policy they have to enforce it on everyone to avoid being accused or profiling and such nonsense . . .
