I do pesting at a maple syrup farm. I have found if I camo up I have much better results. My rifle is factory black barrel FX Crown with grey laminate stock.
I wanted to break up the barrel profile. I don’t know if it will help but want to try.
I don’t want to paint the rifle because I never hold on to anything very long and anything you do to alter the rifle can affect resale value.
A couple weeks ago I ordered a camo net from a place called Temu. $12 for a 6.6’ x 9.8’ piece.
I trimmed off a strip about 1’ wide x 6.6’ long. I then slid it on the barrel, alternating every other hole. I started about 10” in from the end of the net so that the 10” portion could be threaded onto the objective lens and then anchor on the three scope knobs. I’ll put a small piece of camo tape at muzzle to anchor it in place or use a rubber band around moderator.
I think it does an excellent job of breaking up barrel profile.
To try out my camo theory, sans rifle, yesterday I sat in my turkey hunting chair and ghillie suit 8’ from the bird feeder in our backyard. Within 2 minutes two chipmunks were feeding on sunflower seeds 6’ away from me. Within 10 minutes a squirrel and 4 birds were within 5’ of me completely unaware of my presence. A pistol with iron sights would have been perfect.
