Rifle weights

Hope all are well. I am wanting to add weights to my rifle. I have seen some use a scope ring with a round steel bar. Or just getting those prs type Mlok weights. I don’t mind making something just don’t weld or have a drill press. What have y’all made? What could I use? I appreciate y’all.

I've heard of using tire weights.
Filling void(holes) areas with metal bits glued in/on.
The foregrip on my mini carbine build has a compartment built in. Could add weights/lead shot in there too

Short of using stick on wheel weights, the above mentioned method is the easiest way to go.

IF you have pic rails to attach to that is.

Caleb just super glue some 2 inch rebar on to that PRS stock . Lol , by the way you and the Mrs
were correct those were "basket flowers " I was 100% wrong .
PS pour your own m-lock weights they weigh more and are cheaper.

Mike, thank you. I didn’t think about brass bar. I found 1” by 12” on Amazon pretty cheap.

I tend to improvise a lot, meaning I was lazy and could not wait. I borrowed a plate from my press

Drilled a hole through it. And threaded it. Then I bolted a Arca adapter to it.

And put on the bottom of my rig.

I think however if it is used to stabilize a bench gun the best place for weight would be around the barrel itself as that is where the force of the shot initiates from. So I'm thinking about filling the shroud of my barrel with lead shot or making a solid brass or lead weight to slide over the barrel. Of course I will have to block any holes that may lead to the inside of the barrel if it is going to be lead shot.

Lol, I knew it was heavy but never weigh it til now.

would heavy washers work better than lead rolling around?
Then you could adjust weight by how many washers

Yep, but it should probably be anchored somehow to one end or the other so it would actually dampen the action rather than sliding back and forth.

A spring?...dense foam?...
Uhhh...carbin fiber inserts(like using a shotshell plug in a shotgun undertube to limit ammo capacity)

Well you could use the brass barstock as mentioned earlier but cut them to shorter lengths, drill a hole so they would slide over the barrel and another in the side so you can thread and have a set screw secure it to the barrel.

That way you could adjust the weight as well as dampen the harmonics depending on where you put it.

shooting bench and having 20-30min, why is the additional weight used? I understand its to limit recoil, just the idea of staying closer to on target is the appeal?

For guys like me who tend to shoot alone and not have a spotter, it is a lot easier to keep a eye on the projectile, follow their path and see where they hit.

i used a flat brass bar and bottom half of terrible cheap rings , but mounted bar @ 90 degrees as a bench rest flat on the forstock . used scope screws taped and threaded brass bar

I remember a video where someone used a brass bars each on a single scope ring placed on each side of the barrel. He said he slid the bars forward and back to best adjust for harmonics and such.
