Royale 500 with Lothar Walther poly barrel

This is some really interesting stuff. I've toyed with the idea of doing this with a 22 barrel for the wildcat to get it that last little bit to be competitive for BR competition. Watching your progress gives me renewed interest. Did you buy the barrel directly from LW, and how long did it take to get? Was it something they stocked? Thanks. Sylvan

I'm in Canada and would have to import if from USA or Germany so I decided just to get a German made one, they (LW germany) don't sell direct to customers so I found a local gunmaker that uses their barrels anyways so I had him add mine to his next order. Yeah it took forever lol, ordered and payed for in Feb. If you're in USA I'm sure it wouldn't take long and yes they stock it.

I think it's this one, https://www.lothar-walther.com/barrel-blank/airgun/polygon-profile/64/airgun-blank.22-air-polygon-od.63-l-23.82?c=50

Brilliant work. I really like what you’ved done here. The LW poly barrels are awesome. You’ve created a Royale that I’d love to own. Congrats. I look forwarded to seeing more RD Monster groups.

Thanks very much! I probably won't be shooting many more Monster groups, they don't shoot well from this twist rate from my testing. I wanted this more for slugs, a nice surprise that Baracuda match and 18.1's shoot very well from it. This is unchoked so it's a bit pickier on what it shoots well, but should excel with slugs.

I'll try some more at 50m next time i'm at the range but so far they don't shoot well.

Ordered one of these molds, I guess they came up not too long ago and more or less made for Huben. But its very a similar shape to a piledriver which shoot well but at a .2185 size. I've already been able to chamber .220 sized piledrivers (but too tight) so I figured I'd get the 5.55 size rather than the 5.52. I did some stability testing using apps and from what I see it should be stable, showing more gyroscopic stability than the 27gr NSA HP which already shoot well. Should be able to get them to 820 at least if not more with a raised reg pressure. I have probably 25lbs of nice clean lead that I've collected, should come in handy.

But they are heavy as they have a solid base not a hollow one like Piledrivers, around 36gr.

They have

.22 5.55mm

.22 5.52mm

.25 6.35mm

Went to the range today and was shooting at 100m, the range guy mentioned there's a new gong at 200m. So what the hell, I shot at it and was hitting high in the same place repeatedly. So next target change I put one at 200m and shot some Baracuda's at it and a few of the NSA I had left. Both are deadly stable, I could see the cuda's dropping in like a dart.

What does BC do? Well at 200m the Baracuda's have about 11fpe while the 28gr NSA Boattails still have 25! Amazing, After shooting the Baracuda's I shot the NSA and they were actually hitting way high (Heavier slug with higher BC), like I had to come down about 13-14 MOA to get them on target.

Nothing spectacular but pretty damn good for a .22 at 218 yards, and so much fun.
