FX Royale valve question

Hi folks,
I've been resealing my Royale .22, regwas leaking, I replaced it with a Huma. It's leaking now from the barrel. I have a new valve stem and seat, but the new parts have a smaller valve seal and valve stem seal. I'm concerned if I use the new parts I'll lose power. Does anyone have experience with this?
Thanks in advance,
John
You can see the difference in the photo. I ma just try and polish up the old seat and see what happens.

John, when I installed the Huma in my Boss I changed NO OTHER parts. I'd suggest sticking with the original valve. I did replace all old o-rings but on the parts that FX originally installed in the gun. I, like what you're planning to do, did polish the valve a little bit too. Got PLENTY of power now. I also played with hammer spring setting til it shot where I wanted accuracy & power wise. Never had it leak from the barrel. Maybe transfer port o-rings? If I remember correctly there were a couple seals I had to replace twice before everything was copacetic.

It seems to me that the critical air flow area is the valve seat opening itself. During the shot cycle, the valve gets knocked forward into the plenum, and the air charge flows around the OD of the valve body to pass through the valve seat opening and on to the transfer passage & port. ...

... Therefore, shouldn't the newer, smaller valve body help cause less restriction to the air flow? The tapered seat flow area definitely is smaller though. 🤔. Perhaps there was a design change, or one set is for a lower energy market?

The valve with the smaller OD may stay open a bit longer, with increased dwell time.

In any case, I would definitely chuck those valves in a hand drill from both ends and polish the metal stem and seating areas with Flitz or Simichrome while you have it apart.

Good luck,
Feinwerk

I had two 400 Royales, one older that was unregulated and didn't have the port adjuster, and a newer one with a regulator. I reg'd the older one, and it did really well, but didn't have the power of the newer version. I can't remember which seat my older one had, but I'm sure the newer one had the larger seat. I would do some checking because I'm thinking whoever mentioned that being a 12 fpe seat might be right.
Also, I had trouble with both of mine leaking at the valve seat and had to replace the seat oring on them.

Also, just for clarity, if it's leaking out the barrel it's not the xfer port orings? For air to reach the xfer port, the valve would have to be open/leaking. xfer port o ring leaks usually have the effect of poor extreme spread.
