RTI barrel options. "Long Range Pellet Barrel" vs RPB vs CZ vs LW?

I found the 700mm P-3 barrel teaser the other day. It sent me down the RTI barrel rabbit hole.

RTI's marketing pushes the RPB and LW barrels, but the Long Range Pellet Barrel (1:32) was news to me, along with the 400mm and 510mm CZ options that they sell in their shop.

What RTI barrel/ammo/range/speed combos have you all had luck with? (hearing about some first hand experience with the Long Range barrel would be great)

The back story of my experience is much too long and boring. But, I bought a 1st gen Prophet in .22 I think three maybe four years ago (?) to shoot XFT based on a recommendation from Derrick Wall. I immediately noticed the gun was very accurate with very little wind drift over my 1st gen Kaliber Cricket in .25. Where other shooters with other brands of guns were holding off 2 1/2 mildot I was only having to hold off a half shooting at the same distance with crosswinds with my Prophet. I believe with the slower twist the pellet, as it slows down, has less gyroscopic "wobble" which can be more pronounced with the wind pushing against it. With a 1:32 twist, the pellet is only rotating about one-half turn before it leaves the barrel.
My gun is bone stock except I did install the latest reg (spring type) shooting JSB MRD (older batch) @ 985 reg is set @ 150 bar. I only fill it to 250 bar and can easily get 50 shots before it goes off the reg. I'd have to guess I probably have twenty tins of pellets through it.
I'm sure there are other folks a whole lot smarter than me who will chime in and explain all the ballistic nuances but I'm still very happy with my Prophet.

I have shared this in a few places so sorry if you've already seen me say it.....

I had a 1:32 RTI "LR" fitted to a Veteran Long. Of all the many .22 barrels I've tried, it shoots the MRDs, @ 960ish, better than all the rest.

There's a huge caveat here though, barrels are tricky. I recently experimented with a 1:36 .177 that is the same specs as the barrel in my USFT. The 1:36 in the USFT is the best .177 barrel I've ever experienced, my friends 1:36 barrel is not.

So, my RTI "LR" example is just that, an n of 1, singular example of really good results. Did I get luckily get the 1/10 that are good? Or 1/100, or are these barrels good for long range pellets 9/10 times?

Winning the "barrel lottery" as many call it.....statistically, going through lots of barrels is a way to find exceptional ones. I've got a few exceptional barrels, and went through lots and kots of barrels to stumble across the exceptional ones.

Funny detail, I bought the exceptional LR barrel from the classifieds here. So me and my machinist friend found gold where somebody else thought there was none.

I’ve got 3 RTI “LR” barrels…

One classic .22 LR and two .25 LRs.

All have 1:32 twist rate.

RTI offered the .25 LR in the last year of the Prophet Performance V1 - before launching the V2 with the RPB barrel. The RPB barrel is in Prophet V2, V3 and soon to be released Mora - faster twist rate to enable slug shooting.

One of my .25 LRs has not been shot yet. I bought it because the RTI .25 LR barrels are rare (due to coming out late in the V1 model run) - and the RTI LR barrels shoot pellets at all speeds - including very fast 1,000+ fps velocities, better than any other barrel I’ve tried (Daystate Wolverine HP barrel in my Wolverine .22 is close)

If you can grab a .22 or .25 RTI LR barrel - jump on it. They don’t make them anymore. They will work in the Prophet 3 and Mora. They are a “classic” pellet barrel - and the industry emphasis seems to be moving towards faster twist rates for slug shooting.

I ain’t sellin’ mine, lol - they are awesome !

I would love to try one of these barrels, but at nearly $900 US, i am very hesitant to make the purchase.
I'll keep an eye in the classified ads
Airgun Heaven has the LR barrels for under $300, takes about 10 days to receive from the Netherlands.

Good stuff to read. Wasn't expecting so much feedback on the LR barrel!

Is the .25 on par with your .22? People seem to say that the .22 is perfect for (or even was designed for) the MRDs but I haven't heard speculation about the .25. Does yours handle everything well, or do you have a particularly good shooting pellet? King Heavy MKII?

Yes, the .25 LR barrel is excellent with JSB/FX 25.4 and 34g. It also shoots the 30g H&N Baracuda extremely well.

My opinion… if you want to shoot 16-21g pellets get the .22 barrel.

If you want to shoot 25+ grain pellets, get the .25 caliber.

The 25.4g .25 pellet is excellent, and more air efficient (milder tune required) than the .22 25.39g MRDs.

Not that cherry picked groups are relevant, but I can tell you that I’ve done this multiple times with the .25 25.4g. The distance is actually 49.3 yards - I later measured with a laser.

Thanks for the input!

I don't have requirements on weight, just a cache of .25 cal pellets that I'd like to keep using. But getting a .25 LR barrel... it looks like that will be a matter of time and patience.

After yours and others endorsements above, It's tempting to follow @manabeknives and pick up a .22 LR while they're in stock

Very satisfying group by the way, even if cherry picked. And nice to hear some kind words for the .25 25.4gr

@dmont
it was $ 322 total to be sent to Ca. Compared to the $900 from the RTI website ...No hesitation on my part.
Airgun Heaven responded last night and hope to have it in approx 10 days
Thanks again to the people of AGN for incredible information and resources!

The RTI Shop is not RTI, but a look-alike site that has crazy prices. They also have a similar site with Edgun and others as well.

Yep..you're correct..i think it's the Wolfiek group that owns the website.
Some of their info is helpful, but i have noticed a lot of misinformation regarding AEA pellets on their sites
They are way over-priced on that barrel, as well as other items
Glad i was directed to Airgun Heaven
