RTI RTI Prophet 1 - I like it!

Not a lot of discussions on the Prophet 1 any more, but I picked up a used one a while back, so I thought I would share.

I received it when I was looking for something inexpensive. I remember when these things came out, and I thought about how much I didn’t like the looks. After looking around, I decided to give it a try anyway.

Few things…
  • Performance model, so external reg adjustment. Also has 22LR barrel
  • It has the “standard” valve, and I don’t mind, because it is so similar to many other rifles. But reg does creep 20 bar or so between uses. I either just fire 3 shots or so before getting going, or leave the bottle pressure close to the reg pressure when I’m done for storage and then no creep.
  • The cocking mech is no where near as smooth as some higher end rifles, but I’m getting used to it. Not a fan of the left cocking lever either, but again getting used to it.
  • Hate the magazine being right at your eye! Hate it! Rarely hate anything, but hate this!
  • Got a 3D printer cheek riser from MRSHOSTED, and it is perfect to get that mag further from my face and allow me to have a better setup. Cheek risers are something I must have on any rifle I have.
  • I like the factory mag. I have a bigger aftermarket one as well, but would prefer a smaller one. I can’t use the larger one with glasses on, because they bump into it.
  • I usually don’t like the pic rail way back next to the trigger guard, but the rifle isn’t too tall, so it wasn’t bad. I still used a carbon tube to move the bipod out and to use thr FX Chrony.
  • Barrel does like 25RD’s… shallow version around 970. The deeps aren’t as good consistently, but are still pretty good most of the time. The AEA version was pretty good too. I tried some of the mid weight pellets, and it liked the JTS 21.53 pellets A LOT on the same setting around 1000. Didn’t do a lot of testing, at many different speeds with all those, but would buy some more of these to test.
Anyway, just thought I would share some random thoughts after a few times out with it, shooting 20-100 yards. Time to settle on a pellet and then get my dope right.

Congrats! Awesome Gen1 with lots of power on tap! Enjoy shooting it! Nice pic 👍
Definitely lots of power! Crazy how much these things can generate. The hammer spring was so strong when I got it, it was ear damaging. Never had a louder 22. Not from the projectile, but the hammer. It was nuts. I do like shooting it. Very easy to shoot. Trigger is nice too. The addons I have aren’t all necessary, but they do work well.
If you have not seen it, Gregor has a good video on tuning it.
I have seen it, along with many of his other very good videos. He made it seem just as easy as most any other rifle (as expected). I’m glad it is too, because that made turning that hammer and adjusting the reg down easy. Didn’t lose any speed and the rifle is much more tame than when I got it. Still loud (right at your ear), but much better now.

Same one I have, but I did recently buy a .25 RPB for it and my buy a .30 too

When I bought mine the P2 had just been released, and I got the P1 because I wanted the original valve. I have never had any reg creep on mine though.

I have no other high end rifle to compare it to except an old entry level Umarex. I did imediately aclimate to the left hand cocking and really prefer it for the kind of shooting I do.

My shooting postion the mag is more cheek level. Don't hate it but agree that it is not the best part of the design

I have some materials and intend to make my own if I ever get some slack time to do it.

Agree on the factory mags, but do have some third party too. If the originals were a little more affordable I would have stayed with them.

I added a Saber Tactical Pic rail to mine. Tried the CF Tube idea, but mine just did not seem solid enough and raised the rifle a little too much for my tastes, but I do like the look of yours.

Overall, I think the P1 is still a great PCP

As for your eye vs. the magazine...just change your head position !! Yeah, yeah, I know, then you'll have to move the scope too.
I have a full sized and a compact version 1, and like them. Simple but effective.

Maybe I should clarify… my eye isn’t right on the mag or anything. It is just right in front of your eye, even if the eye is a couple inches higher. I could try to find a different height (already use higher rings than most at 1.375” with 34mm rings) or could try locating back or possibly forward. Still doesn’t change that the fact that all that happens right at your face. I don’t like that. The cheek riser has brought me an amazing level of comfort! I think worry about it now with the cheek riser being there as an extra layer of protection.

I did have my own stupid mishap, where I apparently didn’t close the bolt all the way (never happened on any rifle before and hasn’t happened again) and dang it was loud and crap flew up in my face and eye. My ear was ringing and didn’t feel quite normal for a couple days (all good now) and glad I had on glasses, because I felt the air go across my face and eye. TOTALLY user error! But this doesn’t happen like this if this mag and such is in a different location.

All that being said… I love this rifle. It was inexpensive compared to most rifles today. It is super accurate. And it is pretty beefy considering it looks so small with not much going on.

Thanks for the replies. I agree that it is a great PCP! I don’t regret it all.

I have tried many brands and most of the most popular rifles out there. I don’t like it as much as some of the others, but for half to a third of the price with equal quality so far, I absolutely love it.

Had my prophet performance 1 compact out yesterday. Golf balls @ 100 yds. Jsb 10.3 @ 900. Zeroed @ 45 yds after a couple shots for elevation nailed them. The cz 400mm .177 bbl is lights out accuracy. Will stack then @ 55 yds and small clover leaf @ 70 yds. Sweet little gun.

Nice. Someone recently had a compact for sale at a really good price, and I was tempted.

I got one of the first gen .22 that came in. The reg was the bellville type. It failed after about two tins. It was quickly warranted by RTI with the coil spring type. Years and dozens of tins later not a bit of reg creep. I’ve done a LOT of pellet testing and found the MRD shot at around 980 and gauged at 5.52 head size will give me a 10 shot 2 MOA group @ 100 yards.
If you don’t have a gauge or a sizer try pellets from either FX or EdGun. 80+% of the pellets will be 5.52.
As for the mag issue, I use a single shot tray. The factory mag works great but I just prefer single shot.

I have a nice P1 compact heading my way from the classifieds.Coming from a really nice member of the forums. This post has me pretty pumped to get it. Should be a awesome little carry on my dog walks 🤘

Edit:
Also if anyone has any suggestions on scopes and ring height for the compact, it’ll be appreciated. I need to get a scope on the way. Was thinking a 4-12 Veyron.

Thanks,
Rob

Yeah. Definitely a P1 hoarder.

The top one is a “Compact” that started out as a .22 with 400mm CZ. It’s now set up as .177 with a 500mm LW shooting 10gr JSB KO MK3 at 1025fps. A barrel swap to a 500mm CZ .22 (no tune change) pushes a 22gr JTS at 895.

The bottom one started out as a “Standard”. It now has a 300cc bottle an Huma reg. Shown it has a .25 600mm LW that pushes a 34gr JSB KO MK2 at 945fps. A barrel swap to a .30 600mm LW? (again no tune change) pushes a 44.5gr FX hybrid to 895fps.

No issues with magazines “in my face” because of where I’ve positioned the scopes.

Both have received the TwoCan treatment..of double working shrouds..so they make 65dB and 82dB, respectively. Yes..quiet.

Covers all my bases. 😄
