RTI Prophet 2 video

I own a Prophet Plus .22 and the take away’s for me were;

No hammer spring. Never needed to adjust mine but for those who just have to be twisting screws and get the gun out of whack so they can post “HELP!” to get it back to where it needs to be will be disappointed.

Not a fan of the new barrel concept. Shallower grooves and lower FPS so it can shoot slugs is not a bonus IMO.

I do like the charging handle design.
I like the looks of the new moderators.
I prefer my extended rail design. Not a fan of the long gaudy aluminum extensions.

Glad to see RTI going forward with new products but how can you improve on the current solid, successful design they currently have?
Think I’m going to keep the one I’ve got. I see no real advantage in the II for the additional cost.

Dave, I tend to agree with your points…

My Prophet Performance .22 LR barrel “V1” will become a highly sought after classic for pellet shooters - as it allows pellets to remain stable in flight at up to 1,050fps. According to Gregor’s video, the new Prophet II barrel will not allow this type of performance at high velocities with pellets.

I like the bag rider and rail. The jury is out on the moderators. I do like that they provide multiple end caps and ease of cleaning - but ultimately, moderators should be judged by how quiet they are - that is the reason for their existence, not to look “cool”, lol.

If the new .22 Prophet II barrel shoots slugs really well, then perhaps the ultimate set-up is a Prophet II Performance with both the v1 .22 LR barrel for pellets and the V2 .22 LR barrel for slugs. I don’t shoot slugs, so I’m not going to jump on purchasing a .22 V2 barrel, but it’s nice to see RTI constantly working on the barrel technology.

in any case, these RTI Prophet air rifles rock - so simple and functional. Crazy accurate and easy to maintain.

Look like new model will also be a nice shooting stick.

Quite a few of the new rifles got me exited, which is not good, cuz i just got the latest addition in the door, and by chance i found that the Vulkan 3 also shoot the 10.43 grain heavy pellets at over 1000 FPS with a quite reasonable accuracy, though i do think there are more to be gained by shooting the heavy pellets a bit slower, but at least now i have the high point to start my search from.

Just need a new hang of the end of barrel "weight" and a calm sunny spring day, and i can start my quest for the sweet spot with a few pellets and slugs.

But no need to start that when my harmonics influencing basics are not yet in place,,,, then neither are the weather.

I checked out the video today. I like the cocking handle improvement. I also like what they did at the back of it. Looks much better. Doing away with the rear foster fitting was also fine. I never use it on my Prophet performance. Changes to the barrel??... ok I guess.. if one wants to chase the slug demon.. I personally love my LR barrel mine came with. It shoots every pellet I've put through it (JSB, FX, AA, H&N) very very well... definitely not pellet picky.

I also like the assist valve and new plenum integration. The new lever is a little improvement. I like how the Uragan and Vulcan 3 have their levers. I actually prefer the bolt action (and wish they had that option available on the first Prophet and the 2nd) on the RTI since I'm not into rapid follow up shots. I prefer to hit the targets using less pellets and take my time with each shot and I'm not too worried about the cocking effort/force. I like the barrel that the first Prophet has. I think RTI should have the option get another barrel for slugs and pellets like an unchoked barrel like Vulcan 3, AAA Evol or the JSAR Raptor use. Those barrels are accurate (for my purposes at least) with slugs and pellets (even at high velocities, these barrels are accurate with pellets and not picky at all. In some cases even with lighter pellets). A 26" unchoked barrel option would be nice. Their new barrel for this Prophet 2 was the turn off for me. I thought Gregor on the video was going to finish his sentence with "unchoked barrel" lol. But he definitely did not. Maybe RTI can incorporate the "micro groove" (rather than shallow grooves) that Marlin used on their Marlin 60 rimfire rifles (super accurate barrel). I think the metal plates on the sides that start from the receiver/action and goes along the lower sides of the shroud to the butt stock could be beefier. I know we're not supposed to grab the rifle from there, but those plates flex really easy. The barrel is only held down by one grub screw at the breech on the original Prophet. At least one more grub screw would be nice. I guess one can only wish lol.
