RTI Prophet Compact .22 slugs only

Looking to try my compact with with NSA .217 slugs for a slugs only tuned gun. I have 17, 20, and 23 grain slugs to try. I also have a Huma bottle reg on to help ease thebwork of the prophet reg. Huma is set at 140 bar and the RTI is 120 bar. From shooting in the basement I have the 17s shooting 905 fps with a little more room to 915-920 with hammer spring adjustment. Going to the range for distance testing to see how this will work out. Anyone else tried to tune for slugs in the compact?

Mine did well with the H&N .217 21gr pellets. There softer lead and fly quicker than the 20.2gr NSAs. Like 50fps faster. In my gun the NSA 20.2gr shot 200fps slower than JSB 16gr. The 21gr H&N were 150fps slower. I think the 17.5gr NSAs we're 100fps slower.

My EVOL for comparison shoots the 20.2gr only 100fps slower than 16gr. No loss of FPE compared to the others. Not sure if it's the difference between a 12 groove and 4 groove barrel. I mean the choke, while very slight on the RTI, I'm sure slows it down some as well compared to chokeless on the EVOL.

My wife has the RTI compact in 22. I haven't shot slugs through it. But I have shot the FX hybrids and the NSA .250 (26gr) through my RTI compact 25cal. The NSA wouldn't group at all! The FX hybrids showed promise but I couldn't get the occasional flyer to stop. I took the barrel out and the crown isn't the greatest. I'm going to redo the crown Monday at work and try the slugs again.

Well didn't make it to the range today. Wind picked up and wife needed to run errands so that left me assembling Lego with the son. May have to pick up some H&N slugs to see if they work better. I lubed up my NSAs with silicon spray and my lanolin/alcohol home made case lube. We'll see what happens. Got a Taipan Veteran standard arriving wednesday and plan to make that my pellet shooter and the prophet into a slug gun.

I’ve shot a good many slugs out of my RTI in the past. Built a TJ barrel for it a month after I got it. Then I put a 500mm FX superior on it for a while. Eventually was back to my CZ barrel so since I had a truckload of slugs, tried them in the CZ. Personally, I’m not shooting a slug out of anything unless I get pellet accuracy. Without getting too in depth with my barrel/slug journey I can tell you this, dirty air will be your enemy when you chase speed. If you’re fortunate enough to find a slug that agrees with your pellet barrel, it might not be accurate at the speed you dream of shooting it. I even battled it with a slug barrel. Everyone goes up in velocity when they hop on the slug bandwagon. You have to test your gun down also if you want to diagnose why your gun isn’t shooting them well.

That’s strange. But with slugs you can’t make a decision on what happened today. On day one it an assumption. It can take days of different shooting sessions before you can put a stamp on something and declare it a fact. That’s why we see so many glory groups from a guy one day and then he vanishes forever. Gun and groups went to poop 24 hours later. Chamber one with the mag then push it back out with a rod. See if it got a shave and a haircut. If not, keep testing. All it takes is a good lead streak in a choke to get groups to go crazy until it either self corrects or you have to clean the gun. Good luck.
