So I pulled my hammer and thought about adding some weight to it since I was using alot of hammer spring to reach my goals. The hammer felt a little light compared to some of my other guns and decided to add some weight. The hammer has a small aluminum spacer in there and I took that out as it does nothing. I had some left over grade 8 screws that had only half the body threaded so I cut off the threads and poor man lathed (loaded screw in the electric drill and ran it over a file) off the hex head to fit inside the hammer. First screw was about 110 grains of weight, the second was shorter and about 83 grains. When I took my butt pad off I noticed a lot of hammer spring preload to reach my velocity goals. I have a Huma bottle reg on with my RTI reg, ala FX impact style. Huma reg is 140 bar, RTI is 127 bar. I have the newest RTI reg guts that are back to the thin washers. This is so I can reach 95% of my max velocity giving me 880 fps with 18 gr pellets.
Well with the added hammer weight, I now no longer have any preload on the spring. I also polished up the outside of the hammer. Here is a picture of the hammer weight and test target for velocity of my pellets. All shots were taken off a tripod in my 10 yard basement range shot over a Shooting Chrony. Five shot groups. Numbers are Average, Extreme Spread and Standard Deviation. Spots are a bingo dobber. Was using a Sightron 3.5x10 scope on 3 power. It has mildots and I should have added a smaller dot to aim at since the mil dot was most of the bingo dot and covered up my pellet holes. Didn't want to mess with my zero but I should have.
