RTI Prophet II — Powerful and Tough — a Hunter's Dream

All was good with my RTI Prophet II until this morning. I fired two shots and it began to hiss. It then popped out of the barrel. FWIW - I have about 100 pellets through it so far.

I noticed the bottle regulator assembly was slightly out of alignment and loose. I figured it just needed to be topped off. The compressor wouldn't get above 44 bar. I brought it inside and could hear the hiss coming from the regulator. I removed the regulator/bottle assembly and confirmed air was leaking out of the regulator outlet.

I assume it's a bad regulator and messaged RTI Shop where I bought it.

Any easy home shop repairs until I hear back?

Thanks,

Thanks,
just curious. did you try adjusting the reg any or just shoot it as is straight out of the box?

I had 2 out of 3 regs go south (I have 3 Prophet rifles) the dealer took good care of me (sent rebuild kits free) and im sure youll be taken good care of also. the 2 regs that went bad I never touched as I was instructed from the dealer...I was told to just shoot it and let it break in. I rebuilt one reg and its working fine. the other I haven't messed with yet. I tried RTI's fixed reg. which has been working flawless.. (the one reg that hasn't caused me any issues yet....I messed with that thing since day one... I figured what the heck its probably gonna crap out anyway. but it hasn't) I was hoping RTI would have fixed their problem child regs with the P2.

This morning I did try turning the regulator screw in and out a few turns. Thinking that might help seat an o-ring or release any debris. While it did allow the compressor to air to 118 bar, it stopped there and continues to leak out the barrel or breach area if you crack open the cocking lever. Stay tuned!
That doesn’t sound like a regulator issue. It sounds like a poppet issue.

I wonder if anyone has tried the Huma reg for the Prophet? It lowers the working pressure to 250 bar, but not a bad trade-off in my opinion. It also would relocate the reg gauge to the butt of the rifle.
Bought one but have not had time to install. The one thing you should be aware of is that the Huma is not externally adjustable like the RTI. You'll need to de-gas/disassemble to make adjustments. Mine came from Huma set at 127bar.

🤷🏻‍♂️
The one thing that made me buy the RTI over any of the other rugged (=non-FX) bullpups was that
the RTI regulator is externally adjustable...! 😆 No need to degas/ disassemble....!

Why someone would throw adjustability out the window
and with it 30% of their shot count
is a riddle to a simple mind such as mine.... 😉

Well Matthias, that’s a heck of a question, and I don’t believe I have a rational answer. Heck man, even I’m baffled by this behavior …I’ll have to get back to you, I need more time.

🤣

Scotty, fortunately I found a couple of rags to mop up the dripping irony. 🤣 Nice. 👍🏼

And I'm sorry that things haven't worked out for you so far! 😞

➔ I'm sure RTI will make it right by you — I keep reading how they send out updated regulators when someone's fails.

Cheers,

Matthias
