RTI RTI valves: Traditional and Assisted?

I've been shooting and enjoying a (borrowed) P-3 for a little while now. Enough that I'm leaning towards picking one up up in the near future.

I've had one issue though (aside from that butt pad that barely attaches). There's a pinging/ringing sound that I haven't heard with other PCPs. It's not loud enough to scare small game, and it's not even loud enough to care about when the rifle is fired from arms length. When I fire the gun from a normal shooting position, with my ear close to the block, it feels quite loud -- especially after an hour of shooting targets.

1. Do you have a P-3? is this normal for the gun?
2. If it's normal, is this a just "thing" for guns with balanced/assisted valves? (asking because i've seen similar comments about the uragan 2's balanced valve)
3. Is the valve of the prophet 1 quieter? (if i'm not mistaken, that was RTI's last gun with a traditional valve before switching to the assisted valve in the p2)

I have a P2 with the assisted valve. I also had a Priest ll with the same valve as a P1. I‘m trying to think if I ever noticed a major difference in sound when shooting the two. But I’m also probably kind of immune to the racket bullpups make with everything going on right next to my ear. I’ve also never shot for an hour straight to see if I started suffering from noise fatigue. But as I typed this and keep thinking, I do think there is a difference between the standard valve and the assisted valve. I want to say when I squeezed of the first couple shots with the P2, I thought I might have some kind of blow by air leak. Now I guess I’m used to it.

Bought Uragan 2 and Vulcan 3, few months apart, both .30 (700mm). Uragan 2 is quieter, smoother and nicer to shoot compared to the Vulcan 3, thanks, IMO, to the assisted valve. Power levels and accuracy are similar, U2 less ammo fussy. Vulcan 3, even with factory depinger, clangs in your ear at each shot, U2 not even close. WM

If I turn my Prophet one up pretty high, it will get uncomfortably loud, so I’ll plug my right ear. Resting your cheek just above the valve can get noisy, but a foot away, you wouldn’t know it.

funny you mention that. I had the same thought with the p3. After the first couple shots though, i also stopped noticing anything.

Thanks for mentioning these two. I didn't know about the valve difference. Makes a good counter example to what I was speculating about.

Above 45 fpe or so, I start plugging my ear. I usually run around 40-42 fpe. My reg is set @ 145 bar, and has been there for a year and a half.

It is a check valve after the regultor and I beleive that it can be removed to eliminate the ping.
I have not tried this on mine since the ping does not bother me at all.

i tested an rti prophet 1 and a p3, one has the assisted and the other the old school simple valve. to my ears the p3 had the loudest hammer strike. i cannot explain why. but i prefer the original valve. which is a more simple design no extra springs and orings and a p1 is a lighter in weight riffle
