RWS 3400 for $179 good deal?

The forum with the springer specialists is the GatewayToAirguns.org (GTA) forum.

AGN is tops for PCP's — GTA is for springers.

For an RWS — there's their European "gate" (sub-forum):

I considered this gun a couple of years ago — yes, the price seems good. 👍🏼

Good lot of GTA members also belong to AGN. Both also have very good Gates for both PCP and springers and I've learned from both.

As far as the RWS 3400...When Walther decided to discontinue the Parrus and Terrus, they used the left over parts to build both the RWS 3400 and 3500 although the 3500 you read very, very little on.

The 3400 is made from German parts, has an Italian stock and assembled in the US. Downside is it was a one off rifle and when they're gone, there won't be anymore. Also includes any kind of spare parts for them down the road should you need something although you can probably find springs and seals in the aftermarket that will work just like anyone who bought a Parrus or Terrus will. A few rumors had it that it was going to be a new version of the Diana D34 and wild guess at least on my part that RWS was hoping to use the play on the name RWS 3400 to make shooters think so and buy one but again, just a wild guess...lol.

You can search either forum and posts should show up since there were a few but not many. Are they worth $180? Up to you whether you want to take a chance or not.

Considering a $200 or less budget wanting some thing accurate and ready to shoot here.

Might be better off buying the 177 Benjamin Maximus with pump they got in their pre owned section. It has open sights.

Can also mount a scope to it. Even a cheap scope with close focus AO would work since there's no recoil unlike a Springer.

The cheap Amazon $50 CV Life or Pinty 6-24x50. AO or 4-16x44 AO with illuminated cross bow reticle would work.

Big plus is that the Maximus is very light weight and easy to shoulder and carry around all day.

Bet it will consistently out shoot any springer out to 50 or 60 yards in the $200 price point with out even trying hard even with its crappy trigger that you can fix your self with a ball point pen spring and a couple of small screws for less than $2.

Easily shoot more accurate than a $500 German HW springer past 50 or 60 yards.

Back the power down and it's pretty quiet.

Crazy quiet if you add a $50 silencer from TKO22.com to it.

Relatively easy to use a hand pump to its 2000 psi maximum fill pressure.

I stopped shooting my springer rifles after I first shot my Maximus.

Under an inch groups at 50 yards easy to do consistently.

Thing about the PcPs you don't have to really try hard to shoot accurately at longer distances compared to spring guns.

My Maximus has been trouble free compared to my Fortitude.

I'd say it's a decent deal too. I bought 1 from AoA this last summer. In 22cal. Search this forum for " RWS 34 / RWS 3400. What's the difference." The replies to that post would be helpful. I think it is a parts bin gun. The front sight to rear sight/action on mine is very far non-aligned. It shoots a variety of pellets well, H&N 15,Gamo Rockets? it has a BB in the front....

Single stage trigger seemed ok. The stock is well formed and finished,no obvious defects, the chamfer at the breech is even, machining looks good. Blueing is fine.It cocks very smoothly, there is no grinding/scratching noise when u cock it and no biong or buzz when it;s fired.I was getting groups around 3/4" at 25yds. I'm hoping that improves as it gets broke in further.( I have idk 700 pellets thru it by now) and I find a pellet it really, really likes. It may be a candidate to try my hand at tuning.
