RWS lockdown failure

Hey all,

I recently bought a Walther Parrus in .177. I installed a scope on it with a 2 piece mount and quickly found out what the term "barrel droop" means. I ordered and in stalled an RWS lockdown mount with barrel droop compensation and torqued and Loctite the bolts. After shooting it a bit i notices that the scope mount had moved back a bit in spite of the stop pin being engaged in the top of the receiver. when I removed the mount to check it out I found that the soft aluminum body of the mount was being deformed by the steel stop pin to the point where the stop pin was tilting about 20 degrees. It may be that part of the problem is the small (3mm) diameter of the stop pin in relation to the stop pin hole on the Parrus (5mm). Rest assured that the mount was torqued down properly. From the way the pin is bent, I have to assume that is force is generated from the forward rebound the recoil cycle of this springer. Still looking for a solution to scoping this rifle. The RWS Bullseye mount seems to get mixed reviews for repeatability. I have a new Bushnell AR series scope on the way, and would like to find a mount that stays put, has droop compensation and gives the scope a little protection form the recoil.

I'm considering the Sportsmatch Dampa mount. Any advise or experience wit this mount would be appreciated.

The RWS lockdown mounts for LIFETIME WARRANTY through Umarex USA.

You may be better off with the UTG 11mm to Picatinny droop compensating adapter with the scope stop and run Picatinny rings.

OR buy the Diana Bullseye mounts a.d do the mods to it. I believe LEWIS and biohazard did it and worked perfect for them. If you can wait buy from Aliexpress for 1/3 - 1/4 the price. I'd buy several to make it worth while and some rings.

Hey,

Can you link Lewis's mod post please?

I know he recommended it to me if the mods are done but typing Bullseye mount mods, or anything like it doesn't provide anything to learn.

Ron. I created a thread over in the Optics section so it could be more easily searched in the future if anyone else is interested.

My concern is that bending a stop pin with fully engaged mounts may point to a failed piston seal resulting in a much harsher end of travel stop. If you have a chronograph, make sure you are getting appropriate and consistent velocities. The Parrus is not usually on the list of scope killers.

I'm not sure if the ZR mount clones have any droop compensation, but the official mount claims .04. You may have to use an adapter in between. There are several great mounts that have droop compensation. I would get one that goes from your dovetail to Picatinny and then get the ZR type mount with the Picatinny base. Nothing moving after that!

Please let us all know what you decide to do and how it turns out.

Cheers!
