RWS Model 10 Grips

Brand new to forum.

Years ago I shot 10m air pistol with an RWS Model 10.

I would like to try air pistol again and would like to use the Model 10. The only problem is that it has left hand grips.

Due to a medical condition I can no longer shoot left handed. I've been looking everywhere for a pair of right handed grips with no luck.

Help!!!

Thanks!

I have several model 10's and always have my eye out for part and as stated grip are not to be found

I have seen 1 or 2 pair but that doesn't help, your best bet might be Egun in Germany but the seller would have to be willing to ship to the states

call Precision they might be able to engineer a right hand pair off a left hand pair

Rink in Germany do not list them

there is a guy in Germany that has all sorts of stuff, I will check his site and see what he has, he is heavy with FWB pistol grips but never remember see any model 10 grip and his prices are a bit bold

it might be a hard nut to crack but on the other hand the left hand grips are very rare

******checked the German sell and he had one left hand pair at 150 euros, with shipping and conversion that's about 200 bucks, that's what they are worth****

so there is the old buy a right hand model 10 and swap the grips but you have to find that well priced model 10 and that isn't easy either

Thank you for your responses.

Precision Target Pistol Grips will be able to make grips for the gun. The estimated cost is about $160 plus shipping the gun to them since they don’t have a template for the gun. This cost is in line for a good set of grips that I purchased in the past for my centerfire and rimfire handguns.

My journey for grips has me concerned about getting other parts and service for the gun. About 10 years ago I had the seals replaced. As time passes, I’m sure service and parts will be even more difficult.

An alternative would be getting another gun. I’m looking at an Air Venturi V10 or and FAS 6004. What are your opinions of these guns? Currently I mostly shoot centerfire and rimfire pistols and revolvers and will be using the air pistol for at home practice and possibly an occasional match. Air guns are great tools for focusing on trigger control and follow through.

Upgrade or replace? That is the dilemma.

All opinions are welcome and as always thanks in advance for your input.

I have a Diana 10. The factory grips just didn't fit my hand well ( the palm swell hit me in the wrong place causing pain after just a few shots ) I contacted Vernon Austin and he fashioned me a fantastic pair. Had to ship gun to him as he didn't have a template. I believe he now can make you a pair without you having to ship the gun to him. I would give him a try. They were reasonably priced and very high quality.

I do have the Fas 6004 great gun and just a beautiful looking piece . The trigger is not as nice as the 10 however. In my hands it not quite as accurate as the 10 but I believe the potential is there.

Btw if you can find a used Izzy 64 at a reasonable price I would go that route in a heartbeat . Amazing accuracy and the best trigger of the lot.

Good luck ,

if Vernon can make them I would go that way also

so parts for the model 10 and how long will your 10 year old rebuild last

there are few parts for the 10 available but the key parts piston springs and seals, spacer are still around and the main reason is the Model 6 and Model 10 use the same guts

https://www.waffencenter-gotha.de/shop/index.php?manufacturers_id=2&filter_id=270

now the rebuild, the old factory seals were good for the time but no where near good enough for the long term and just turned to a crumbly mess

the rear seal never fails just the front seal and the spring can be changed but you can't hot rod a Model 10, so I work thing=k your rebuild could be good for 10 more years

there are many other pistol that could work for you other than the 10, in order of trigger pull, the Gamo Compact or V10, FAS 6004. HW 75, the FAS and HW are about tied, you have the FWB 65-80-90 and a IZH 46m, but it is more on the target side of things

and of course there are other choices

I will send you an email with Vernon's email address

so I was asked the question is it good or bad for a model 10 that was rebuilt 10 years ago to set for long periods of time

and I think the answer is yes and no but here is the problem, it doesn't have any testing done for the answer

would a gun be better off shot once a month vs sitting for a year or two, more than likely but again no proof

again the main problem with the guns being made in the 70's and 80's is they didn't have great material for the synthetic seals but remember the rear sear seals never fail

I have done 7 or 8 model 6's, either 6, 6g or 6m and not one of the rear seals have fail and in some cases i thought about just leaving them but never did

but the cap spacers were always junk and not useable but there one I got out whole, the other were a pain

so why did the fronts turn to just crumbly crap, for one thing, they had more lube on them and the other not so much

but the question then is did the lube destroy the seals or was it just the material, my guess is both

now that brings us to todays seal and that would be seals of 10 years ago, they are not the same material and should last 20 years but again untested

so the question was what happens to the seals setting in a box in storage for 10 years, my guess is very little and they will be fine until they aren't

so is there really an answer, NO, but there are educated assumption and that what we have to go on

the fact that the Model 10 gets over looked is to bad but the Giss system pistols and rifle are some of the best shooting air guns that were every built and most people tend to go over to the FWB's of the time, they were way better selling products, just by the number of pistols and rifles that show up on the used market and great in quality also

so this is just some thought from an owner of both Diana and FWB

It looks like I can get grips made from Vernon Austin or from Precision Target Pistol Grips. Both look like they would work depending on whether I want beautifully made one size wooden grips or hand fitted target grips.

Before I pull the pin, I’m worried about the longevity of the seals on my Model 10.

The gun was rebuilt about 10 years ago by Airgunsmith.

I tried to contact them on whether they still perform this service but have not received yet a response.

I hate to put money in grips and then not be able to get the gun rebuilt at some point in the future.

Does anyone know of any other resource that provides this service?

Thanks!!!

so your 10 year old rebuild could, should, last say another 10 years and so if you get some names that do the work today will they still be doing the work

so without a crystal ball to look in to future your question is hard to answer

I would assume Umarex is still doing the work now and I'm sure other are also but down the road is a large unknown

so here is my feeling on the matter, if you want the grip, get them made at the cost they are because you don't know if anyone will make them down the road

and the grips are not a ham sandwich, where as, once eaten it has no value, the grips will have there value today and 10years from now, they will be a very rare offering to someone that might be looking for replacements or something different

always remember the parts are worth more then the whole, for example, a model 10 is worth 350 to 550 bucks but the grips alone are worth 175 to 200 and you will find that cost for just grips always

Rink in Germany makes first class grips and to get a pair made and shipped they cost 225.00 give or take

in this hobby we all have wants and needs and in your case you have a need

so my final comment is have Vernon make you a pair of grips

wood grips are just like money

let me know if you are going to get a pair made

take care

I had grips made for my Model 10 by Precision Target Pistol Grips.

I decided on Precision Target Pistol Grips since they customized the grips to my hand and the way I shoot. I also had a set made for my FAS 6004 and they feel great as well. I’m very uncomfortable shooting with the European Grip angle after decades of shooting American centerfire and rimfire pistols and revolvers.

Vernon was also considered, and he showed some samples from wood that were beautifully made but were more one size fits all. Since I will shoot the gun often, fit and feel were more important than aesthetics. But I must admit, Vernon’s grips sure looked good.

Umarex will replace the seals if needed. I haven’t shot the Model 10 much over the last years, so at the first sign of trouble, off to Umarex it goes.

It feels great being able to bring a classic air pistol like the Model 10 back into service.

I sent the gun to them. Turnaround was one week. I think they would now have the pattern.

Cost was $135. This is the repeat customer option since I already had grips made for my FAS 6004. I got the wood composite option and stippling. Cost without these options start at $95 for a repeat customer. First time customers grips start at as low as $89 for ambidextrous grips to over $200 for a very specialized set depending on what you want.
