FX Saber Tactical Impact rail - why?!

Hi.

Can anyone describe me what is the purpose of Saber Tactical Impact rail other than a fancy look? I can see one can clamp a barrel using that rail but... it is not the case. Just take a look.

The more torque I apply, the more the insert is pressed against the wall of the rail, not the barrel.

I do not understand that.

What is your experience with that? Have you observed any change in the accuracy?

Thanks.

Both my inserts are tight against the shroud. They were installed per Saber Tactical directions with a small drop of lock-tight applied to the heads of the set screws.

I don't change my calibers so my .30 Impact stays a .30 and my .177 Impact remains a .177. As such I do not suffer POI shifts.

Once installed and tuned to a pellet, the liner/barrel/shroud system is never moved. The Saber Tactical rail helps protect the shroud from external side, top, and end torque.

Is your rail threaded? Or maybe the insert is threaded only?
I apologize but I cannot remember.

My insert is one piece (U shaped) and had to be slid onto the shroud before the top rail was fitted. It was a tight compression fit between the top rail and the insert and between the insert and the shroud.

The two set screws are supposed be just finger tight to prevent the insert from moving forward or backwards thus the drop of lock-tight on the heads.

In that case, how do you clean the barrel, hardly in place as it is, you clean it from the inside ???

I insert an Otis cleaning cable from the muzzle end with the moderator removed, then use a long pair of thin tipped tweezers to draw a patch into the cable's end loop. Pull the patch through the barrel from breech to muzzle, remove the patch and repeat the process.

This is why I use an Otis cleaning cable inserted from the muzzle.

I think the idea was to provide an option to help support the barrel assembly without really clamping down on it. I think its a decent system, especially if you pair that with a homemade tensioned shroud. Being able to slide the little delrin supports might also give you some harmonic tuning too, but overall the system wont improve accuracy. I have one for a Maverick build and wanted it for poi shifts while hunting. Its not done yet but I like the rail.
