Say good bye to the old system of Dope Cards, and Hello to the New!

Well, like all things Airguns, new improvements have come along. Say hello to the recently produced dope card holder from MK Machining-

Its a top rail picatinny mount. It can be mounted at both left and right side of the rifle. I currently have an email to MKM to see if this also can be produced to mount on the side rail, like what’s on the current impacts and Mavericks.

At the swivel it has a ball detention system with positive stops, so your dope card isn’t just flopping around in the wind, or each time you pick the rifle up and move on, like to your next field target.

Two powerful earth magnets hold the white steel plate on. Your dope card, if you made it as wide as the plate but made it longer on the top and bottom so you could fold flaps on it, could easily be held on with this magnetized plate, or, depending on your ammo type and weight, you could order more of these plates and just label your dope onto these plates with a label maker. Your choice! You can see the purpose made half round punch outs on the plate holder, to make pulling off the plate a breeze! Very well thought of, I want to add. I also see a pre punched hole on the steel plate so storing a bunch of these together like in a key ring makes it easy to organize.

More views of the dope card holder off of the gun. Believe me, once you e held one of these in your hands you’ll see how much thought went into its design. Somebody at MKM knew what they were doing!



And for those of you who have never heard of MK Machining, they make all kinds of throw levers for our scopes, along with my favorite parallax type wheel. I have these star type wheels on all my PCP’s. Just check out MKM’s catalog of throw levers and parallax wheels, and if your scope isn’t on there, do what I did and ship them your scope and they’ll pull dimensions off of it and you get your throw lever and wheel compliments of MK Machining! They also are a big seller of Athlon scopes, chronograph add on parts, reloading equipment parts, all sorts of stuff for the shooting sports we enjoy.

I love this idea, but I don't use caps, but I can do a sticker on the scope behind the power ring. My turrets are set for 44.5 hybrids but I also want a dope for 44.8 pellets. This gave me the perfect idea for having both on the rifle. Thanks!!

MK Machining got back to me on the white steel plate, and that that is to be where your dope is marked up on wether with a sharpie or a label maker. Use both sides and you can create the dope for two different ammo types. If you need more, like to transfer onto a different gun, caliber, etc, they sell more white steel plates as needed. 



Like I mentioned, there’s nothing wrong with the older traditional ways of storing scope turret dial ups, wether it’s like I did meticulously underneath my scope cap, or the tape on the stock, or even the Tom Brady style playbook on the wrist. It’s whatever suits you. In my case with my notes under my scope cap, I thought I was stylin’ till I realized these dope notes were only for the Vortex supreme 44.75g 30 cal pellets, which were discontinued last year. I recently found out my 30 cal wildcat loves the new Haydes, so now I need to check if the dope on the Vortex will match up with the Haydes, and now that FX came out with the hybrid slugs I’m in another predicament. When I saw this dope card holder from MKM, and saw how easy it was to transfer info and even have multiple cards, one for each type of ammo, I had to share in my findings!

Looks like something I'd definitely like! However, there is no more room on the Picatinny rail near my scope. Suggested to them to make an Anschutz rail adapter to fit under my rifle. As kind as they were to suggest they could, I was told I would have to pony up and pay for them to custom design this. I bet I might not be the only one who would be interested in this.

That looks great! Again not sure of the practicality of it for lots of people though. I prefer the little yardage stickers that go on the turrets. However I'm a big fan of MKM! I got there scope caps and low pro bubble level on my Ares ETR.

Looks good but based on its size it would be better if you could mount a small cell phone there and just run strelok or another ballistic calculator?

I also have both a MKM scope wheel and throw lever on my Ares BTR...very nice products, very innovative and great communication from them.

I think MKM is just awesome!! I'd love to see them make even more products. Starting with LEFT HANDED CHEEK PIECES for the Impact M3 - I would happily do some Beta testing for them!!

The throw lever and scope level I have of their is amazing craftsmanship!! I think after seeing this post I will also get the parallax wheel.

debating if I want to mount the electronic dop card to the gun but found it rather not really necessary with the strelok on the wrist besides it’s harder to read the smaller fonts now and days, Apple Watch does have ok zoom function though. Maybe I can strap an old iPhone to the gun using bigragu’s method…….



Granted to get yardage you need a range finder and a lot of range finders have resolver built in which makes dop cards kinda obsolete/not needed. If you are proficient at ranging with the scope then that’s a different story.

This is for my Field Target dope at 12 FPE

I decided to go the opposite direction.

I guess I wanted to make life more complex. First I got my dope by shooting at different distances and recording my vertical turret clicks. Minimum of 5 distances (spread out between 10 and 55 yards) and at most 11 different distances.

Then I plotted the graph below.

For the left side of the curve, it sure looked like the curve of a parabola (which can be expressed in the from of the equation y = a(x – h)^2 + k)
The right side of the cure, it's such a shallow curve that ...I just approximate it with a slope line (it's probably a parabola too...I'm just too lazy to figure that out).

So I'll just program my cell phone for a parabola equation for the left side of curve. Punch in a yardage and find out where to click on my elevation turret.

Probably an approximation and not entirely accurate ...we'll see.

Any math whiz in here? it's probably the equation for a complex curve....I never paid attention in class...I was too busy skipping class to work on my sling shot.
