Stubbers,
I agree with you on the license thing or something like that. The only problem, scammers are a whole lot smarter than we are. They know their way around that stuff. To then rely on the ADMINISTRATORS to go through the trouble of loading their information and blocking out certain info will turn this into a pay site.
Some have suggested the only way is face to face transactions. Airguns are complicated enough where it would not be difficult for someone to hide a problem or the buyer not know airguns well enough to know what to look for. One member noted that they only buy from retail establishments. That’s probably the safest way but we’ve read about some bad experiences with legitimate airgun vendors too. Then there’s the extremely low number of airgun establishments. I live 20 minutes from Pyramyd, but they have a pick up counter. They hand you a sealed box and you sign for it then out the door you go. In their defense, they aren’t a retail showroom. Everything that is manufactured can have something wrong with it and the retailer not know it.
If Pyramyd were to add a showroom they may well have to raise prices to cover the associated expenses.
Trust is a beautiful thing. I recently sold an item and my post was pretty explicit regarding a blemish. The interested buyer and I spoke on the phone, I took additional pictures and forwarded them and we made an exchange. From that point on we trusted each other and then we waited for the designated shipping company to SAFELY deliver the item.
Dealing with scum is always going to be a problem, just ask Adam and Eve.

Tis why in my original post here I suggested only face to face transactions, and offered about 3 other suggestions down the line, such as a middle man service. Requiring a license uploaded and verified is a rather simple process that could be integrated automatically with a little bit of coding skills tbh, but that is a whole different discussion that integrates checks and balances that are probably beyond the ability of the mods here.

One of the reasons scams are prevalent on this site is because the lack of such checks and balances and next to zero protection for its members, quite sad if you ask me.

The 100 posts would be a good place to start. The middle man serice ia great idea for those who would use it. Anthony Jarvis will be back on these forums unfortunately. He is not just a scamming thief, but an airgunner that knows just enough to seem valid. How does one go about getting the 10 post gig changed.?

Can’t believe that there isn’t a person in law enforcement from Ohio in this community, that can offer input on how to put the skids to this chump. I bet his wife’s a scammer, too. I mean, if I came walking in with a package and a new Airgun, my wife would be asking questions.
Yeah, she’s either on board with his shenanigans or a dumb airhead involved in real estate.

There’s gotta b someone on this forum that lives close to this guy!

@MysticalDragon, says you’re from the area. Know anyone in law enforcement? Have any friends that could help?

We know a lot about this guy, and his family. We also know he works at a dealership. Wonder if a call to his boss to inform him of what one of his employees does as a side gig might derail his operations. Or at least piss him off enough to slip up!

Im about 30 minutes ish away. Unfortunately its another reason I am so pissed about this because it is nearby. I sadly don't know of anyone in law enforcement here. I would be more than willing to help the OP if I can. However caution would be needed with how unsavory this character appears to be. It could quickly escalate. But I would be willing to assist if possible. my messages are open if needed.

It especially sucks as ohio is a wonderful hotbed of great airgun activity, and the members of Central Ohio airgunners and others of the buckeye series have been AWESOME. Then you have a scumbag like this nearby tarnishing it.

Forged money order? USPS INSPECTOR?
Yep any printed negotiable item can be washed and made to have a different amount and signatures, this would include USPS Money Orders, Cashiers Checks, US Treasury Checks (I have personally seen a forged IRS checks) company checks, personal checks, Insurance checks. It can sometimes take weeks or months for them to be returned and your account debited. This is why it is important to destroy redeemed checks and not throw them away, especially if you do mobile deposits.

Yes. I shipped to that address

What carrier did you use for shipping? If you shipped by USPS, then here you go...

United States Postal Inspection Service - Mail Fraud Complaint

You could be sitting on a slam dunk felony mail fraud case against this guy. If by another carrier, the fact that he used a fraudulent USPS Money Order may still give you standing to file a complaint against this guy, so it wouldn't hurt to try.

When I first joined and got my 10 posts there was a guy an hours drive from me selling two Mavericks, we could have done a f/f at his place in Holister but he wasn't having anything to do with it which I thought was rather funny. My guess it was a scam.

I personally wouldn't buy an entire used gun unless it was heavily discounted, too often people want 90% of the guns original value with <50% of the warranty after use and abuse, oh but of course they were only shot 2 or 3 times wink wink...

Classifieds is over-saturated with people like the above and people trying to off-load their impulse purchases so they can...make another impulse purchase for a newer/different gun. Hey buy my dated gun so I can upgrade! Hey I didn't win the barrel lottery but I won't mention that in the ad, only shot twice.

Sorry not digging you out of your own grave to save 10% off a gun. No wonder some guns sit on the classifieds for 6-12 months lately...between that and the lack of proper buyer protections I have zero interest in used guns here.

Not to mention PA often has 10-20% discount codes....for brand...new...guns.

Yeah to that I bought a Used used gun, I think the guy I bought it from was on the up and up the the original owner was a total idiot, luckily FX sent me all of the parts I needed to repair it. Things were broken that should never have been broken.
