Scba tank 30 year life

Hello all. If anyone is interested, I have found this listing of which I purchased one myself. These are scott 45 minutes, 4500 psi tanks with the extended 30 year life. These are manufactured in March of 2019 with 25 years remaining on them. This comes out to $14.52 per year of ownership (not including hydro which will need to be done) for a usa made dot tank. Anyway in my opinion i believe thats a good deal. They also seem nice from pics. will see when they arrive.

Until such time that I see carnage due to a CF SCBA bottle letting go.....
I shall continue to use expired CF bottles in good condition. I will not recommend others do as I do. You pays your money, and you takes your chances. The manufacturer's of these bottles engineer them for a very tough environment. IMO the CF is very stable long term when used as intended. Think about the CF itself, long filament strands wound and braided around an Aluminum core, the resin is the weak point. CF does not do near as well with external pressure, the resin is the fatal flaw. Autoclave processing is often done to reduce the ratio of resin in the final structure. I was stunned to learn the Titan sub was not processed in an autoclave.

Hello again. Just wanted to post an update on the air cylinder. It was just delivered about 45 minutes ago (lol see what i did there). Anyway the tank is is amazing condition, with just a few dings from handling. The nice part is that is also has a current hydro with 4 years and two months remaining until next required test. This is a nice surprise as it was not made clear in the post if it is current on hydro testing and i was expecting that it was not. So that is my update on the tank that I received.

I think the expired SCBA bottles are perfect. Yes, inspect them for damage, they lead a rough life. I bought a 4.5 liter which will be my field bottle. I'll get a 9 liter for the homestead here. That's thirty minute and one hour air bottles, Scott brand with the original CGA347 valve on top. Thanks for the handy tip on tightening the jam nut on the valve handle, now I don't have to push the pesky thing in. The valve is designed to require pushing in to turn the air off, that's a pita for filling guns, all better now.

Hopefully they can be re certified with a simple hydro test. If these cylinders were originally 15 yr ones extended another 15 with the digital wave test then they will need that expensive test every five years. A simple hydro doesn’t apply. I have heard some cylinders are 30 years up front ?? Not sure but if they are then I would think the simple hydro would suffice. I was going to have a cpl cylinders I have extended for another 15 years until I researched the actual process and cost. Wasn’t worth it.

I doubt I would be in to the hobby if I could not make my own HP air at home. It's part of the appeal for me anyway, I've worked with pneumatics for decades, I'm a big fan of air powered sold a lot of dental drills in my day. I've done a lot of research on the air bottles and I've worked with med gas for years as well. I'd find it too much trouble to rely on a "filling station" and paying a few bucks for every bottle of air. I don't mind investing in the equipment if I can see reasonable return. I'll continue to respect the stored energy, but am 100% comfortable making my own. The convenience factor is nice too, while tanks pump up fill mags, clean barrels, etc. Esp. the SCBA bottles are designed to NOT fail violently, consider the environment they are made for. That 4500 PSI cylinder is body worn in flaming buildings.

So the scba tank that i purchased and linked here is a 30 year tank. It is not the 15 year tank that could be extended. This specific one/type is made and sold as a 30 year with the label written on it under the clear coat. Same seller reposted some more, but the price on that is like 1800 or so. Im guessing the made a mistake in the original post to sell it for only 325. The one I got had last hydro don in january of this year and i have 24 years of "life" left on this one. I took the valve off and inspected it prior to filling with an endoscope, and its pristine in the inside and out.
