You can shim a scope ring and not damage tube...I've done it before...it does take longer to install ring caps I'll admit that...and besides the scope I'm talking about is a Hawke.

Is it possible to shim a scope and not cause damage? Seems so, as many state they have done it. Lots of dented scope tubes and malfunctioning scopes in the world also. Saying it can be done doesn't mean that it does not increase the possibility of damage, which I believe that it does. I don't shim scopes. I use SportsMatch rings a lot-their design eliminates the need for lapping and they lock solidly. Same for the Burris insert rings.
