Scope choice

I am thinking of a scope for a new air rifle next summer. I have read about the Element Helix 6-24x50 ffp. My budget is $500-600 but I am willing to go up to $800. Also don't keep it to the usual brands. Give out some other brands than Hawke or Element. The range of shooting is from 10 yards all the way to 125-150 yards. This is a hunting gun. I am thinking of a zoom range of 4-16 to 6-24 or even obscure ranges like 4.5-27 or 3-18 zoom. Also I want an MOA scope. I have never shot with MRAD scopes. I want it less than 2.5 pounds. A 30mm tube with a 50mm objective lens. The gun this is going on is either a FX Panthera 500 or a Brocock Ghost HP. What are you suggestions? I would like to hear your ideas.

my opinion, you dont want higher than a 16 scope for hunting .. hunting is different than posing with an eye candy gun at a range, something light that most importantly gives you a full view quickly without precise eye placement .. also, a 900$ scope in the woods is kindof laughable, the chipmunks arnt impressed .. used alot of different scopes in my time, you wont beat a westhunter 4x16ffp for hunting 'anything' with an airgun .. and 150y hunting, well, with an airgun thats not really realistic unless you bring your eye candy setup to the woods and set up in one place for a very specific situation .. but the 16 would still be plenty ... but since we're doing eye candy hunting might as well get a giant 1000$ scope on there and the cameras rolling lol ..

When people talk about "a scope for hunting" they often mean "stalk hunting" and "shooting offhanded" (no rest at all).

We can disagree on how to define "hunting" — but for choosing a scope magnification range two things are essential to decide:

(1) 🔸
How close will your closest quarry appear — and what field of view (FoV) will you need for quick acquisition of your target (with your scope at the bottom end of the magnification, which will determine your bottom end magnification, though the FoV is the deciding factor).

(2) 🔸
How far will your typical quarry be, and how large of a kill zone does it have? This will determine your top end magnification.
