Scope Mounting Too High hurt accuracy?

I have a FTP900 and this rifle takes a dove 11mm scope ring mounting system. I wanted to play around with a digital scope but this only has picatinny rail mount. 

So I had an extra mount converter setup on my rifle. The scope is not mounted on the rifle but the Scope is probably the highest mount i have ever had on a rifle. 

So my question how much height should a scope be above a barrel. How much inaccuracy issues happen ? It is my understanding that if you tilt the rifle and the larger cap between the scope and barrel the larger the room for error.

Any thoughts on scope height an how much it effects accuracy would be a welcome discussion. I have heard issues with Airforce airguns because the gap between the two is so large.

Hi Jaydog,

I have my scope 3.5 inches above my barrel on FX Impact and it does not change accuracy.

It changes how much you have to compensate at short distances. At 10 yards I have to hold over 4.5 mils.

But kill zone is almost flat from 20 to 45 yards.

You can enter scope hight in chairgun software and see POI curve changes.

Shutik, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I always heard of rumors about canting the higher the scope the more accuracy is lost at greater ranges let to right. I was curious if this is a huge deal if slight changes. Granted you want to hold the gun the same but i am talking very slight canting to see if it changes poi.

Just make sure you put the correct scope height into your ballistics calculator, otherwise you'll find yourself in a world of frustration.

If by "digital scope" you mean the ATN X-Sight II, then you can enter the scope height into the software and the scope will compensate for it as long as you also tell the scope what range you are shooting.

I got scope mounted bubble lever that shows if you are canting.

Will test canting it on purpose and see how much POI changes.

Beemanr7, Yes i have the ATN Sight ii. It sticks up so high since i have a piece between it and the dove tail mount probably another 1.25 inches. I just wanted to play around with ultra long shots from a 12FPE gun. Those FT rifles are so accurate if you can gauge the wind.

Cant error is a product of the barrel being off center. The scope height has no bearing on it. A higher scope does make it appear that you are more canted in your sight picture but the actual pellet movement left or right doesn't change with scope height.
