Scope recommendation for a newbie at PCP

Can anyone recommend a decent scope that will not break the bank for Air Venturi Avenge-X Tactical.
I'm thinking of going with a 4-16x44 or 50. I've been using a 3-9x40 on my Gamo swarm fusion but I'm getting too old (or to lazy) to break the barrel anymore and I'm switching to the PCP world and would like some suggestions on a scope. looking for something in the 300.00 or below range.
TIA

@tealsmoke57 I am of the opinion that a decent recommendation greatly depends upon what type of shooting you intend to do and with in what shooting range (i.e. 20-50 yards, within 60 yards, etc). There is a ton of information compiled here. It may be a little helpful if you have a fundamental understating of riflescopes. Either way I think it still worth looking at.

A simple scope for plinking, backyard target shooting, close range small-game hunting is the Vector Veyron 3-12x44 scope. They come in FFP and SFP. I prefer FFP for hunting. I have a few of these scopes on different guns. Paying $200 or less for a Veyron is worth it IMO.

Been down that road, budget $250 max. After a few duds, stumbled on closeout Vector Veyron 3-12x44 for $120, never looked back. Five 6-24x44s later, couldn't be happier. Lightweight, super-subcompact, crystal clear/bright picture and smooth functioning make VV a no-brainer. Amazon, $300, last two from Krale (Netherlands), $211, to-my-door. MPR-V10 reticle, SFP and six-shade red center dot IR, included in $181 price, recommended. WM

No Veyrons for me yet but I think their size fits my P35s better than the scopes I have on them. But the Avenge X is not a small gun. Veyron undoubtedly still a reasonable option.

I would think of a slightly overprice Arken EPL-4, however. I paid $330 for mine. It's adjustments are noticably more dependable than my other ~$200 scopes which include a Vector Sentinel 8-32. Glass is also better. It comes in 4-16 and 6-24. I have the latter. I really like it but I do not like the reticle becoming near invisible at 6X. It is FFP. On a 4-16 I would think 6X would be usable. I like 6X for hunting/pesting. I like 24X for target shooting. The Veyron on my shopping list is the SFP 6-24 (available at Krale).

Another good 4-16 that is less than $200 is the Primary Arms classic 4-16. I have one with a mil dot reticle and I think it's a good scope. I also like my Athlon Talos 6-24 which is SFP. I think Athlon scopes tend to be quite reasonably priced for what they offer. Athlon also has a very good reputation for their warranty coverage (which I have not needed).

Sorry I should have stated that I will be using it at 30-50 yards, some for target shooting and some for-squirrel hunting. Thanks for the info, I'll take a look at the Vector Veyron.

The Arken EPL-4 runs around 450.00 currently and kind of out of my price range. and it looks like the Primary arms classic is no longer available but I'll take a look at the Athlon. Thanks JimD

I did a quick google search and found the Arken EPL-4 4-16x44 for $348 at Amazon and $337 at Camera Land. But it is still above your $300 target. But I think it is nicer too.
Thanks JimD. I did a google search to and I missed the amazon one. Now I have to talk to the boss and see if I'm allowed the extra funds, I'm already over budget by 125.00 LOL

Another scope that I really like that is under $300 on Amazon is the Primary Arms 4-14x44. It is FFP but the reticle is thick enough you can see it at even 4X. But that means it is just OK for target shooting. I can shoot a little better with one of my 6-24s. But for hunting or informal target shooting it is a good scope. The glass is good. The windage and elevation don't lock however. That has not caused me any issues.

If you want to get back within budget an Athlon Talos 4-16x40 is only $170. It would be similar to the Primary Arms classic that is no longer available. An advantage is it is only 19 ounces so it's a quarter pound lighter than most of these scopes. Talos scopes are second focal plane but I don't see that as a problem. Reticle stays the same size but the hash marks change as you change power. It is also a 1 inch tube. The elevation and windage are capped but easily finger adjusted once you pull the cap. All these things are true of my 6-24 Athlon Talos and in some ways I like it better than my Arken. The glass is almost as good and significantly better than my Vector Sentinel 8-32. I think I shoot as well on targets with the Talos as I do the Vector despite the 8X magnification difference. If I could see the reticle at 6X on the Arken it would be the clear winner but I can't. I can see it just fine on the Athlon Talos.
