FWB Scoped the FWB 300s

I machined a muzzle piece to replace the front sight and mounted an Optisan CP. Nice size for this rifle and allows full access to the loading port.

Beautiful work. I've been looking at those scopes,
have you tried it on the 97K? What do you think about it?
Thanks! I’ve only had it on my Diana 75 and the FWB 300s. I wanted a more compact scope that fit on the 75 and 300, while leaving the loading port unobstructed.

Nitrocrushr,

I'm curious. I did the exact same thing except I used a 2x7 Hawke, and my POI went wildly inconsistent, so I put the dovetail mount back on. I noticed there was a big weight difference between the stainless sleeve I made and the stock front mount. Did you notice anything weird happening to your POI?

Thanks,
Al

The POI shifted, but nothing wild. The sled guns are sensitive to changes in weight, so any change that would effect the weight of the barreled action will more than likely result in a shift. I can shift POI simply by installing a sunshade on the scope. Again, no wild swing in POI, just a shift to a slightly different spot on target.

Now, when changing the weight at the end of the muzzle, you may be changing the timing of the pellet exiting the barrel. Ideally with the muzzle tuners you want to tune so that you are at a stable point of muzzle movement at the time the pellet exits. If the timing is off, the pellet may be exiting in the middle of the muzzle swing resulting in POI stringing on target. I made a tiny adjustment on mine and now have a nice stable POI on target. 6 shots through the same hole in the attached photo.

Regarding the weight difference, I machined mine out of aluminum, so it is a good bit lighter than the OEM open sight.
