I'm doing some research on what brand and size scope I need to upgrade too. I know I want FFP scope. The problem I'm seeing is most of the target/long range scopes have all those lines and hash marks and looks like that would all run together with my 50 year old eyes. My question is there a target/ long range scope that that has the hash marks on the crosshairs but not all the other stuff.
Thanks

generally - second focal plane reticles will always appear thicker throughout magnification range. FFP reticles get thicker as you add magnification.

Best scope I've seen in a long time CVLife Bearswift 5-25x56 FFP SFIR. Mounted it on my Throne 2 and was extremely surprised at the optics clarity. Easily as good as my Leupold MK4.

Not good quality video, but you can see that cross hairs are not in the way and are quite useful for making quik measurements.

The scope is an Element Helix 6X24X50 FFP, with a sideshot phone mount that I just bought and was learning, using an old, off the grid iPhone as a camera.
75-yards at a Marksman pellet trap, HW97K .20 cal. the last shot was half speed.
A lot of direct sunlight bleed into the rig.

Get a Athlon Helos G2 2-12x42 DMR. The reticle is easy to see, you won't outshoot 12x, the glass is good, well everything about the scope is nice. ANNNDDD it has a lifetime warranty plus the company is strong so less likely to go out of business.
It's probably the most underrated scope, as well as the most versatile FFP scope, on the entire market.

So, not real experienced with scopes. Was recommended a $500 whistle bell lighted reticle so i bought an Arken epl4. Really nice and accurate. Got fedup with the parallax bs (max range for me is not more than 120 yds. Put my leupold 3 on my wildcat. Parallax inside that range is not so critical. Wifey wanted to start shooting the dreamline and cudnt get comf with all the wheels n dials. So i put the leupold on the dreamline for her and the Arken back on the wildcat. Its a great scope (cat pushed the gun off and the elev knob bent, ARKEN sent mea brand new one so that was impressive). I kinda question the value of all that poop for airguns. Sniping at a fewhundred yards i get it but if i was gonna get another i would either get a lower dollar leupold ( kind of an oxymoron) or a simpler (cheaper Arken). My wife byw, outshoots me with her leupold. My .02 cents fwiw

I own both those and prefer the Element. The Athelon didn't come with flip up lens caps like Element does. Those are an extra PIA, and expensive.
I bought the Athelons for the illuminated reticle.
Either are great scopes with great warranty. 👍

If needing to use any optics type and closer ranges and lower X settings ... a FFP type will shrink the reticle so much that if having semi poor eyesight will become likely non usable ..... Seriously !!!
That true in the hunting scenario, but not on the bench especially over paper, and the Athelons have illuminated reticals useful for those situations if you need that.

Yeah not having caps could be a downside but it's out of the safe and into the case except when I'm shooting so I don't miss them. I specifically like the .3 mil dot and the 4 mil circle in the DMR mil reticle which is what makes this scope stand out amongst the crowd, and this reticle can be seen on 2x, which doesn't work out well with FFP scopes that have the normal sized reticles, and just one more way to offer versatility.

I haven't bought a Arkionopterics yet to know exact differences but I venture to state that seeing it's reticle on 2x is a struggle and that's why I think the HG2 2-12 is a more versatile scope.

All that being said Athlon's new Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50 is so high quality that it's quite amazing to experience it and it reminds me of my tier 1 scopes costing thousands of dollars more. It also has a slightly thicker reticle than most FFP scopes, at .06 mil thick.
I'm all for thin reticles in high mag FFP scopes but not for low mag or mid mag scopes.
Get this, that G3 also comes with a sunshade and "screw in" scope caps, with magnetic closure locks, and they stay all the down flat when fully opened.

Old guy with old eyes. I like the SFP Element Helix scopes and have been upgrading my airgus to them.

I have $1000 FFP scope on my bench rifle and would gladly trade it for an equivalent SFP scope. The reticle is acceptable at maximum magnification when shooting white paper but is impossible to see at low power.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers!
