Scoring Question

I posted a target in the 10 meter postal for last week. Some of the targets look like their shots are closer to a line than mine where I scored a 9 they may have scored a 8. I didnt want to shoot wad cutters and resight my rifle. I used a pellet to push into my pellet hole. When I reread the ten meter rules I wondered if I am being a cheater cheater. Kind of. I pushed the pellet thru to the skirt then looked at the lines. Should I be using the head of the pellet. I have shot in ten meter pistol matches and they scan the targets and score them. Myself I am not worried about picking up or dropping points. But I did wonder when I saw other targets. If I was scoring correctly?

I Would check out a few of these companies that you might be able to get some needed scoring aids. I have both styles.

They make a scoring gauge, that has concentric circles on a clear piece of plastic film, and allows you to overlay this over your target. That style is called an overlay gauge, and is the method of scoring for secional air rifle and pistol matches. If you get this gauge, get a couple, because the printed circles do wear off.

The other kind of gauge is called a plug gauge. These can have a metal plug, that is inserted into the hole, and pressed down. The metal ring can be looked at, to see if it touches the line, or dot. They also can be bought with a magnifying glass built into it, I would recommend that one. For both these gauges, you'll have to specify caliber, as they are caliber specific.

You can try checking out Pilkingtons, at Pilkguns, Champions Choice, and Champions Shooters Supply. Between one or all of them, you should find both of these gauges, I would get both. They should be less than $20 for both.
