Skout Scout EVO - My first impressions

I ordered my Evo on a Thursday and it shipped on Monday. They have their 10% off till Jan 6th, plus no sales tax and on mine the did not charge shipping. I didn't order the fancy case but in did come in a nice case. When I opened the case I was really impressed on how it looked, but on close inspection the cheek rest had busted (came unglued). I emailed skout about it and said I could epoxy it back together. But 1/2 hour later I had an email with tracking number for a new one. I upgraded to the LW 22 cal, 25" pellet and slug barrel. Also got the 580 CC Tank and Evo rail kit.

I did not change any of the factory setting except I change to a release trigger, IT IS GREAT. I have developed a mental block squeezing the trigger. Even though my other gun had a 4 oz trigger my mind felt like I was pulling 4 lbs.. The release trigger mad shooting fun again.

On my old rifle I would take a shot and a little later I could not remember in I had cocked the gun for the next shot. The Evo has a yellow light when not cocked that changes to red when cocked. Just a little thing but much appreciated.

These pictures are using the settings from the factory except for the release trigger. The on of the rifle is in my bench rest configuration. It has a box on the front that fits the open window but seals out the cold from outdoors. The shed is heated to around 75 degrees and you get an awful mirage from the scope without it being in the box with cold air.

The next two are shot string and chart. Notice on the shot string the outside air is 29.1 degrees

This is one of the first targets I shot at 50 yards. Never had a air rifle group like this direct from the factory

I am looking forward to tuning it. I am 78 years old and shoot at least 100 shots almost every day. I would not hesitate to by again if needed.

Nice Evo!
You are really going to like the LW barrel on the Evo ...it is a fantastic combination!
If you have a chance to get some Altaros slugs ... try the Kings(better BC)
In the LW barrel ..it's scary fun
So far in my Epoch, the JTS 22.07 have been the best pellet with the AEA 21.9 in a very close 2nd. Very slight difference in the 2
Mike
Curious, what is your Low Reg reading at 990?
Probably around 195 to 200 on the LPR

I have looked at the Altaros slugs but they are a little out of my price range. Ammo cost is one reason I got rid of my 22 LR rifles and went to a pellet rife, good ammo was up to 30 cents a shot. I was spending a couple hundred dollars a week on just ammo. The JTS pellet 22.07 are only costing me 3.7 cents a shot. Makes me smile every time I shoot one.

First off, Thanks ArcherKS. I have the same gun set up. Went from .25 to the .22 LW polygonal. I have the jts 22.07 waiting to go ...just waiting for this Dec. weather craziness to pass...tornadoes in Dec. Who'd a thought?

I've been wondering if the Low Reg controls (among other things), ES and SD? Looks like you are sitting on some good numbers there.

Are you guys lubing these jts?

Thanks

So, looking at your Indexing shots... I assume this was shot as your Evo was received from the factory, like the other test targets? Your barrel was not yet indexed, but you had zeroed your scope at 50 yards, using the barrel index position it was in when received from the factory? It was probably zeroed with the barrel pretty close to the #1 index position, since you were not very far off the zero/aim point when you shot the first group of two shots at index position #1?

If I'm on the right track here, then after shooting this indexing target at the 12 positions, you would have set your barrel to position #8 to properly index the barrel, then re-zeroed your scope to the new point of impact produced at this index position?

Skout is a great company for sure. Excellent products and customer service 👍. If I were to do it all over again today I think I would save several hundred dollars and go with the epoch all over again. Especially now you can get them with the skeleton butt stock and newer barrels. The guns are just so close in every way. Unless for some reason you need a slightly more vertical streamlined platform. Otherwise for major intents and purposes they are nearly the same gun.

On the EVO they use a higher pressure regulator, don't know if the Epoch I don't know if they get the upgraded.

I am the wrong person if what the Low Reg controls. I know it can be adjusted separately but it also changes with a high pressure adjustmentby itself. They adjusting the dwell can fine tune the group

I am shooting the pellets straight out of the can. I don know the JTS weights are VERY consistent.

Thanks... that's what I figured. After shooting and tuning Impacts for a few years, it's hard to believe anything pertaining to a PCP airgun can be this simple. That's how I indexed mine, but the circular pattern shot at the 12 different barrel index positions was only between 3 and 4 inches in diameter. Also at 50 yards.

You've got a heck of a shooter there, and from the consistency, you obviously do your part as well. Nice shooting!

It’s just a spring. You can get it for the epoch. In hindsight if I was buying a Skout for the first time now I probably would coin up and buy the newest model. Spending that much you might as well.
