Brocock/BRK Scratches on brand new gun barrel?

So I finally got my scope mounted and went out to test the gun today! Seems to shoot well but I was pressed for time and it was freezing out so I only shot 10 rounds.

More importantly, as I was outside in good lighting I noticed that there are scratches all over the gun barrel and this is a brand new gun. If it was $300-500 I probably wouldn’t care but on principal, for the kind of money this gun costs I am a little disappointed. There are quite a bit of them… it almost looks like it was either a return or Brocock sent it out like this….

What do you guys thing?! Am I being dramatic for expecting a clean reasonably flawless barrel for $2300? They are hard to see in this lighting and on the camera but they are definitely there and it looks like someone removed the barrel and scratched it up!

As always, feedback is greatly appreciated!

Sako,
Sorry to inform but a common airgun industry practice is to place customer-returns, in-store demos, promotional loaners and Dealer's personal collection items back into inventory for "new" sales. FX Sweden, thru my dealer, and Utah Airguns have done this to me. Spend enough time on this forum and you'll see the pattern. Dirty, little secret. WM

You are correct in that the barrel shouldn’t look that way. Have you taken up the issue with the vendor? They should be able to make it right to your satisfaction. Definitely not the norm…

I sent them an email today just waiting to hear back. I can also reach out to the manufacturer as well if needed. Everything else on the gun seems to be working fine so that’s good but hopefully for this kind of money they will make it right. Send me a replacement barrel or give me a significant discount so I can buy a new barrel if it starts to bother me enough

Yeah unfortunately this type of stuff is becoming more and more common in many areas. They just need to mark it as open box and discount accordingly. I doubt many people spending this kind of money aren’t going to notice this many scratches. If it was one small one I wouldn’t care but someone clearly messed this barrel up good and proper.

Its definitely understood that you shouldn’t have received the gun in its current state…QC before shipping was obviously overlooked for “whatever” reasons. What’s important is how the vendor treats “you” once you have made your valid complaint. Why not simply let the vendor make it right before having this thread derail into brand or vendor “bashing”?…🙏

I won’t be naming any vendors unless our talks go very south. Hopefully they can make it right and in that case I will be perfectly happy to keep the vendors name confidential. I just reached out today so I think Wednesday is more than reasonable to hear back from them. If I don’t get a response via email I will try to call.

Simply not true, particularly at the price level the OP paid… That is what is unfortunate about this thread @WorriedMan, we all understand that good faith efforts are what its all about. So why seek to normarlize what isn’t so. A mistake was made, what’s important is how it’s dealt wth…

The question simply remains did you get a response from said vendor “before” publicly posting your
disatisfaction? Seems like awaiting a proper response to your more than fair, questioning of receiving a less than expected product for the coin you spent would be prudent. It’s understood that your gun should have been pristine as received, give the vendor a chance to make it right. If they don’t? Post up…

Well, I look at it this way, new should be new, from assembly plant to inventory to consumer. Anything else should be noted accordingly and discounted. If we don't call them out, they'll continue to take advantage. As a 2X victim, I say enough is enough. WM

Understood… but in theory, practice and theory should be the same… In practice? Not so much…🙏 And in your case I would ask wth sincere respect who is the “they” you are referringn to? To the OP, this is what i was warning about, this thread derailing into brand/dealer/vendor bashing…

We can’t bash a dealer that is unnamed. Sure other members can give their experiences with vendor “x” but I will not be doing that at this time.

I started the thread to ask if this was normal. I am completely new to air guns so I don’t know what kind of nonsense I should be expecting. I know what I expect for $2300 but I like to hear others thoughts because every once in a while I am unreasonable, or so people tell me 😂

I’m not naming any vendors unless we can’t come to an agreement on what’s fair as a resolution.

Please take the opportunity to search archives for my thread, "Ever Seen a Butchered Wildcat?" Also, couldn't understand why my "new" Taipan Veteran Long .25, purchased in 2021 from Utah Air, had rusted bolt heads, scratches on air tube and indentations on stock from tripod clamp. Was too new to hobby to know about industry practices, but at the time neither Wildcat nor Veteran felt "new" at unboxing, like other PCPs did. Paid for new airguns both times, but got used instead. WM

Yeah I think vendors should just advertise the items as open box! If that’s the case.

I am an avid archery snob as well and I love that Lancaster archery does this. They do a great job of listing their products properly so you know if it’s open box or used. Save the money and deal with a couple scratches or pony up the big bucks and get a prestine product!

No beef with L.Leon, in fact consider a respected friend on this forum, just tired of us paying for new but getting something different. Positive Ghost didn't leave factory in that condition, what "detour" it took to get them should not be passed on to consumer at full price. WM

Fully agree, that's all I ask, call them what they are and discount accordingly, Krale (Netherlands) does it why can't others? WM

The section of a Ghost barrel that passes through the frame WILL be/get scratched.

Seems that the machining of the chassis doesn't include a step to soften the sharp edges for the barrel passageway.

Scratches upon initial install? Possibly.

Scratches upon a barrel clean/pre-sale checklist by the retailer? Possibly.

Scratches from somebody who bought the gun and quickly returned it or brief use as a demo gun? Possibly.

When that barrel is passed through the frame (even possibly from initial install) it results in scratches.

Mine has scratches also(arrived Friday), but it looks as they all do and I remember Franklink mentioned this in his orginal Ghost thread. I wouldn’t be concerned about this. It’ll happen when you pull the barrel, my FX Maverick had some scratches on the “barrel” also.

One of my top rail screw holes doesn’t have anodizing in it and I thought it was galled but it looks maybe they chased the threads, but I’ve noticed on Daystate’s site some pics have a silver hole too on a delta wolf race rail and few YT’s Ghosts do to but some not, threads are good just a cosmetic thing(it does bother me some). Overall the Ghost is way ahead on quality compared to my Maverick.

Dd you even shoot the gun? Nobody ever see's any of that ish, but you. Because it's your gun. You can, indeed, find flaw, with any Airgun.
Might be the best airgun you ever had.
As in_ OMG this thing is accurate!.
Accuracy trumps looks
but if you can have both............well, a feather in your cap. Two birds with one stone.

Yours is not a used rifle looking at your unboxing pictures, unfortunately airguns just are not the same quality as PB’s at all. You did buy one of the best for solid fit and finish and internals, if you bought a FX you’d been disappointed. They are made up of multiple sections, tubes and put together with a lot of tiny screws and ton of orings.

Going by your user, I have a Sako TRG and no airgun will meet that quality.
