Other Scratches on HW97/TX200 style sliding breech

With the TX200/HW97/Diana 460, etc., style of breech opening, are fine scratches a common thing on the visible silver portion of the compression tube that slides back and forth? I've seen several guns that have them, including one of mine (HW97). They aren't very deep, but I'm surprised that such high-end springers don't have a better fit and polish of the metal-to-metal surfaces to prevent scratches from forming.

It's not just fit and finish responsible for sliding tube scatches. Dust and dirt in there will scuff them up too. I haven't worked on anything but Weihrauchs but usually the tube interface is machined fine. Its machining debris or swarf that gets in there and scratches them up.

For the record lubing them up can make it worse because the lube acts like a dirt magnet. The key is to clean it out very well and only lightly oil the underside.

Dry lube that is non-collecting as to grime . same as triggers never oil or grease do to attraction of contaminants. Silicon would another choice depending on the carrier.

I cherish every dent and scrape i put on my guns for the reason above.
I wouldn't marry a virgin and keep her that way either

When I owned a few HW77’s and HW97, a polished the sliding chamber and then buttoned it with ARH “old school buttons”. I placed them where they couldn’t be seen, they acted as a buffer to keep the metal parts away from each other.
