Selling air tanks

People, times are hard. Most peoples wallets are feather light. Having to spend $500+ just to shoot an air rifle is ridiculous. Especially when the air supply costs more than the gun itself!! = To be honest, this sport needs to be less expensive so more people can enjoy it. I searched and searched for a tank. I finally bought an SCBA with 5 years left on it for $79. After the "plumbing" is done, i should only be out about $110 at worst. Im thinking of buying used tanks and setting them up for air gunning. I own a hardware store and can get the high pressure parts at great prices. Heres the kicker. If I can find a tank supplier, I will sell them at cost. New or used tanks. I wont make a penny. Think of it as my gift to the community. Why? Because we are getting raped when it comes to buying them. Charging $120+ just for the hose and charging system is absolutely ridiculous. I feel we are being taken advantage of because we are a select few in the sport and thats gotta change. Any thoughts?
 
I'm with you. I'm just getting into pcp air rifles. And the cost of a new tank and the charging system is out for me. I believe most new into this sport will look at the prices and just move on to something else. If I had to buy new I would not be in this sport. I'm just now looking to get set up with.... used carbon fiber tank and building my own charging system. Mine will cost under 200 bucks for a 45 min set up. I cant find a 45 min tank with time left on it for under 117 bucks... well at least so far. Hope you find a suppler so you can help all the new air gun shooters like me. Thanks

Hopefully Frank will chime in on this as I believe he has done extensive research on building a valve and hose system and getting a tank on E-bay. The parts cost more than you think. Because they are for HPA the cost goes way up. I don't think you really save that much. Tanks are expensive and the theses suppliers have to move them once they buy them because we all want a full 15 years on these expensive tanks. They also have to purchase a set quantity to get the tanks. I agree, this is an expensive hobby, it would be great if you could figure a way to decrease the entry cost and get more people in this hobby. Best of luck!

I will put this out there for everyone that would like to find a source of used tanks. Every HP tank has to have a hydro test performed at different time intervals. With that said your local or regional Hydrostatic testing company will see nearly all the HP tanks in your area. (do a search on the internet for your area) Stop by and visit with them and let them know you are in the market for a used tank. If they don't have one to sell you they will more likely know of a VFD or other organization that might have singles or large groups of tanks that they need to turn over for new tanks. It is a win-win situation for the Hydro folks to help you out so I am sure they will be glad to point you in the right direction if they can't help you walk out with what you need that day.

My son just bought two of the SCBA tanks from the ebay seller for $130 for the two of them. Fast delivery, one tank still in hydro test until 12/16 and one until 8/16. Both tanks in great shape. I filled both to 4300 psi. Could have gone to 4500 but we were in a hurry to use them. Good buys. Both can still her hydro tested next year.

Few! All this extra learning and money spending is giving me a headache. Could someone please help me? I am deployed and can only access these forums to find experts like you, for trusted help. I'm afraid I cannot go out into the local community to do my hands-on research, so the internet has brought me to this conclusion: I would like to purchase an air hog with two additional "dead head plugs". My thoughts are that I could then use the single valve/hose assembly to swap between the air hog, and another portable hpa tank I find on eBay for hunting purposes. Would switching a gauge like this work as long as I have the appropriate threads? Please advise!

Unfortunately I can only put a filling in them for you. LOL. Even for me it felt like someone took a chunk out of my @#$% after purchasing a rifle, scope,and tank. I also bought a Maruder and scope for my son. The good thing is, if you can maintain yourself (I couldn't and Have 5 rifles), once you make these big purchases, pellets and air are very inexpensive. As others have stated before, bleed once and get it over with. Then enjoy and shoot till your hearts content. Best of luck with your project!
