Seneca round ball

This is more of a PSA. I've been firing 81 grain pellets and 158 grain lead bullets that I pulled from some 38 special that I own an over abundance of, out of my homemade 357 air pistol and wanted to try some lighter round ball stuff so I ordered some of the Seneca 65 grain lead round balls. They all have huge sprues left on them, are oversized at .362 and seem to be incredibly hard cast. I wouldn't use these in a slingshot.

I would. I'd shoot them in a .36 caliber BP revolver as well.

They will work fine if you orient the sprue up or down. You can also trim the sprue with a pocket knife.

I’ve been shooting ballistic products #000 swaged roundball in my evanix rex 9mm. No sprue, some variation in diameter but good enough for plinking. Very hard cast but only a narrow band is in contact with rifling. I’m no expert in analyzing what is or is not good for my barrels but I haven’t noticed any problems with them other than not having the best consistency.

I mic'd a bunch of them today and they range from .362 to .367, definitely oversized. I actually put in a return to Amazon and they sent me another box instead of just refunding me 😒

So, with a total of 400 of them, I made a .358 swage and ran about 80 of them through it using my milling machine quill. They do chamber and fire now but they're finicky to get aligned in the chamber. No idea on accuracy yet.

Picked this one at random from the pile. Produced today from a Lee .457 round ball mold.

It weighs 140.7gr. I then lubed, sized, and slighly relubed. I can barely feel the indentation. They came out great. I'm sure the .357 will be no different.
