This sight must be removed as it WILL separate the barrel from the pump tube, I have seen this on dozens of them that I have restored. If I don't install a peep-sight or a scope I simply epoxy the open sight where it belongs It is esy to remove if needed just carefully apply heat to break the epoxy bond.

Any benji/sheridan that passes my way gets the sight removed and with two sets of pliers , open up the "wings" so to speak so that they easily snap on with a finger. I like to move the rear sight anyways closer to the front sight as i like a tighter window on the sight lineup. But yes, as stated above if there are any weakness in the solder, the sight will find it.

I agree. The funny thing is that I thought Sheridan might have learned a lesson in 1971 with their early scope intermount. It used six screws that were often over-tightened by users , thus separating the breach from the tube.
