🌳Sherwood Airgunners🌳 Field Target Match Report August 6, 2023

Sherwood Airgunners August 6, 2023 Field Target Match Report.

Sherwood Airgunners had our monthly Field Target match August 6, 2023. With field target season in full swing and a lot of matches and a few Grand Prixs under our belts we decided to make this months match a real challenge. Theres nothing like a good tune up before a major Grand Prix to hone out skills and show us our weaknesses. With the Pyramyd Air Cup a few weeks away our prestigious Sherwood Highlands course was set to do just this!

Our goal was to set the course about a 34 Troyer factor and our original calculations came out 34.49 which we figured was great. The avg distance was just shy of 37 yards. We had 16 targets over 40 yards 5 of those being over 50 yards. This with a few 1" kill zones close to their maximum distance with a few short small KZ targets made this a real doozy. The newest part of our Highlands course is a open field which is exposed to the sun and wind which we had 4 lanes in. This can be a particular difficult 4 lanes due to the elements we face their…heat, wind and sun. I believe most shooters were glad when they were finished shooting this section of the Highlands.

So with a good forecast of 80*+ weather mixed in with a little wind and high humidity 16 shooters set out to meet this challenge. As expected overall scores were down and I heard multiple times that the course was really hard. A few shooters had some equipment issues in some sort or at least thought they did with how they shot. Hopefully these issues will get ironed out before the Pyramyd Air Cup for those guys.

In Hunter PCP Mike Gann of Baker Airguns shot a very nice score of 50/60 with his Daystate Wolverine/Sightron rig securing first place. Not far behind was Jeff Swartz with his Thomas/Khales rig shooting a 46/60 for second place. In third and someone I'd like to give a special shout out to for being very generous donating raffle items was Paul Nickerson who shot a 42/60 with another Wolverine/Sightron combo. Paul we certainly appreciate you and am very happy you were a top finisher this week…well deserved!

In Hunter Piston Dan Putz once again showed he's the top dawg with his springer in this neck of the woods shooting a outstanding 46/60 on this tough course with his Air Arms TX200/Trijicon Credo setup. Nice shooting Dan and as always we appreciate the help after the match pulling targets!

In OPEN PCP Larry Gramacki and yours truly Keith Walters both shot a 50/60. Larry used a Sightron and I used a March scope both of us shooting Rapid Air WEAPONS rifles.

In WFTF PCP We had 2 shooters with Lucas Marusiak shooting his Thomas/Sightron rig for a 46/60 score for 1st place.

Tyler Patner who has been doing Tyler Patner things most of the year shot WFTF piston and had some equipment problems but shot a 38/60 with his Thomas/Nightforce combo. Hopefully Tyler will get this sorted out and be back shooting hi 50s score which we've become accustomed to.

Rick Smelko shot Unlimited class and shot a match high score of 57/60 using a BroCOCK/ATHLON combo.

Lunch was provided and Carl Lucas and Jerry Mcquire cooked and served hotdogs and hamburgers. Appreciate it guys!

Getting back to the Troyer rating it was brought to my attention that we accidently made a wrong calculation on our positional lanes which raised the Troyer factor up a bit. It ended up being a 35.71 Troyer with the correct calculations with raises it up to the EXPERT level which we all are at this time of year 😉👍. Hopefully this course exposed some of our deficiencies in time to work on them before the Pyramyd Air Cup.

We appreciate you guys and we truly want to help everyone become the best Field Target shooters their potential allows. Lots of shooting and some good challenges will help gets us there.

Sincerely

KeithWalters

Very nice report and great photos Keith. You and the Sherwood team have a terrific course. I have yet to shoot the Highlands side but I hope to before the season winds down.
Thanks Gary...we definitely are blessed to have a great property to play with. Our Highlands course is on the parking lot side which I believe you shot before. Our Hollow course is the one we made this year and is on the club house side but down in the Hollow. I can honestly say they are too very different courses.
