Sherwood Field Target Match August 14,2022
Once again the airgunnng god's shined down upon Sherwood Airgunners with near perfect shooting weather. Temperatures were in the low to mid 60's with overcast skies and a very light if any breeze ocassionally showing up. This was a welcome shift in temps from the humid hot summer weather we have been experiencing in NE Ohio this summer. With overcast skies it did make the course a darker setting with the thick canopy and fulliage at Sherwood. Very comfortable shooting weather without many bugs to deal with either. All the targets were painted either bright orange or yellow which made it easier to shoot in this particular setting.
While setting up the course taking into consideration that we are in full FT season with plenty of shoots under our belts we wanted to present the shooters with a challenging course. This was accomplished with 10 targets over 45 yards and 5 smaller kill zone targets set to their further allowable distances. It made for a course with plenty of long shots but at the same time some challenging short distance targets with ⅜ or ½" kill zones. Besides this some logs and debris were purposely but in front of the targets so that the cinder block base was not seen giving a more natural look to the targets and making it nearly impossible to range the cinder block. This effort was welcomed by many who really liked the look of the course. So our efforts made this course a challenging 34.08 Troyer factor before any other factors were considered. Those that did well definately earned it!
To my surprise we had some very good scores with a few personal best scores and I will mention those as I go through the categories. We did have a total of 24 shooters with 1 shooter, Mick Brown shooting his first ever FT match. Welcome Mick and I hope you enjoyed the day although I know that first match is usually a rough one.
We had 13 shooters in Hunter PCP with Bill Rabbit taking first place. Bill has been posting some exceptional scores with today being no different with a 58/60 which was tied for match high score. Only missing 2 standers on a tough course. In second place was Ron Heckathorn shooting a 56/60 which is his personal best. Ron cleaned the positional lanes and showed me that he's capable of doing…congrads on the PBS Ron! There was a three way tie for 3rd place between Conrad Griffith, Jeff Little and Keith Walters all shooting a 53/60. Jeff and Keith conceded to Conrad because the 53 score Conrad put up was his personal best. Nice shooting Conrad and congradulations!
There was 4 shooters in Open PCP with rookie Joe Edwards taking first place with another great score of 57/60. This is another personal best score and Joe definately is showing he's no stranger to competitive shooting…congrads Joe! In second place Larry Gromacki shot a 53/60…another solid score.
We had 2 shooters up for the challenge shooting WFTF PCP with Larry Justinus shooting a 31/60 for the win.
We only had a single shooter in 2 categories where Dan Putz shot a 43 in Open Piston and Al Duster shooting a 33 in Hunter Piston….nice shooting guys!
Last but not least we had 3 shooters in Unlimited PCP where Rick Smelko once again showed it's a great way to knock down targets using unlimited magnification and shooting sticks on all your shots. Rick was tied with Bill for match high score with a 58/60. Tim Baylor shot a 55/60 for 2nd place in this category. Nice shooting guys.
Wrapping things up I just want to say how gratifying it was hereing how everyone enjoyed today's course and shooting down at Sherwood Airgunners. It was a overwhelming show up support from everyone I talked to. We only had one cold line which was due to a string breakage and like I said earlier we were blessed with great shooting weather. Congrads to all that shot well and thanks for your support!
Sincerely
